About james1990

  1. Im glad to hear there's some interest. Thin clients- we have around 70 terminal servers for somewhere in the region of 2000 thin clients. Web development- we do as much as we can in house, our web guy does a lot of programming in ASP and PHP. We use MS SQL 2005/2008, clustered. VLE- we currently use Blackboard hosted in-house but are looking at other options such as moodle. Wireless- we have two cisco lan controllers, one at both our main campus'. These serve around 100 ap's. Remote access- the only remote access we currently offer is webmail, extranet, and RDP. I'll let everyone know the date when I can finalise it. It's been a very busy past couple of days as we're putting in a second Cisco 6509 core switch running VSS, this will be a very big part of the day!!! Oh and 25,000 users, you can tell its been a long week!!!
  2. Hi all, Don't really post much here but thought I'd try and gauge interest for a technical day hosted at Bridgwater College, Somerset, TA6 4PZ. We are a very large college with around 25,000 and very up-to-date kit so we are considering putting on a technical day where we can show other schools/colleges what we have done and how we do things, and also for us to gain other ideas. Some topics that I thought may be on the agenda are: -Virtualisation -Networking -Telephone systems -Server 2008 Can you think of any other topics you'd be interested in? Please let me know your thoughts! Kind Regards James
  3. I agree with dhicks and ict_guy...buy a cheap dell/hp server and whack a load of hard drives in it. Upgrade the ram to 2Gb or more and you've got a capable server of running other services such as WSUS as perhaps even an anti-virus server. I was just looking at dabs today and noticed a HP (ML110 I think) for £130...bargain! James
