no you you don't loose those three years of job security. you holidays etc. all stay the same. You can still help people out when they ask for it, everything doesnt have to go through help-desk. basically if its an emergancy or its going to take you 2 mins, then you can do it straight away. If its going to take you all day then it has to be logged. you can also do the job and log it for the user after the job is done. they say everthing has to go through helpdesk so that they can account for what you do to the LEA. your school know you work hard but head office and the LEA have no way of knowing what you do with out it being logged. You wont be reduced to a toner monkey, as a mobile you are required to help out ASU (advanced support) with all sorts of higher level stuff eg. switch configs, central server farm work etc. They will gradually give you more and more access, and more technical stuff to do once they have gauged your skill level and know you a bit better. Only if you fancy more of a challenge (or a change of pace) you can choose another career in capita ( they do everything from finance to defence work!).

Do you realise how big capita actually is? there are hundreds of different divisions. you are entitled to your opinion but you shouldnt scare these guys off unless you have worked for that division. I have personal experiance in the BSF side and although can be difficult at times they treated me very well.

I work for Capita and I worked previously in the BSF side of the business for 3 years.Standard On-site's will be kept busy by normal day to day jobs on the desktop side that your already do. you will be probably be put into the mobile engineer role as there are no network admins in BSF (not on site anyway). I mobile engineer doesn't necessarily mean you will be driving every where,it just means that you support other schools in your area. you will probably be given domain admin access once they have assessed your skills. If you do not like your new role there are loads more you can move to in capita. If you are a real techie, have a look at becoming a technical implementation specialist (like me), you get to play with all of the best kit that we use and you get lots of perks with the job. if that doesnt appeal, there are tons of other jobs! dont worry about capita taking over, its not as bad as you think, only different.
