We've looked at it, but we need a complete culture change, and Moodle isn't going to get the staff on board here. It just isn't attractive enough. Looks clean and professional and I'd certainly read it. It does seem a little light on actual products - comes across as quite wordy at times. More case studies perhaps? Also, the headlines on page 3 really distracted my eye, I think there are two things going on there - the spacing between the headline and the body of text seems tight and the headlines span the columns instead of neatly wrapping to the first column and just bumping up the body of text to align on the right side. Maybe that's just me

A chunk of scaffolding? As has been mentioned before, you're now talking about mounting things on it, which means some qualified assessment of it's capabilities. This whole job is probably going to end up costing as much as buying some portable staging.

I'd be surprised if it was lack of termination that was the problem, do the lights respond to sound (tap the light and see if anything happens)? It occurs to me that they might be in some sort of disco sound to light mode and that's why they're behaving erratically.

We had a demo this week, it's certainly impressive. Very slick and packed full of features, but the demo we had and our demo logins suffer really badly from lag. If this is how it works "in the cloud" then it wouldn't take long before it would be frustrating to the point of not using it. Typing a sentence and then seeing it appear letter by letter 5 seconds later soon gets tiring when you're checking for spelling mistakes and the like. Of course, if you get a server then I can imagine that problem will largely disappear, as long as you can afford to add another 7k or so to the already hefty setup cost.

This is how the Vietnamese have been making coffee for years, I've had two similar but mroe basic sets of these in the house for about 5 years following the father in law visiting Vietnam on business. Amazed nobody's done this before.

Splitters should work fine, even the cheap ones from ebay. Be prepared to lose a few once the students realise how handy they are.

Water just vaguely lukewarm works very well for ice too. Not hot obviously.

We do this with students using their AD logins to collect prints, and staff using NFD cards to speed up the login. It's working really well for us - although staff took some convincing and we ended up just removing local printers in the holiday time in the end. We use Pcounter which has been a pain to set up but once you're there it seems to work. We don't set limits and so far, nobody has abused that. If they did, they'd show up on the reports soon enough. No more paper mountains of uncollected printing next to printers, and departments are really cutting back now they can control costs.

I can highly recommend this book, it was recommended to me and it got my head around exposure and the balance between shutter and aperture: Understanding Exposure, 3rd Edition: How to Shoot Great Photographs with Any Camera: Amazon.co.uk: Bryan Peterson: Books As for your helicopter ride, shutter priority mode might be the way to go, keep the shutter speed as high as you can without underexposing the photographs to minimise movement blur. Also, once you get into your camera more you will want to consider shooting in RAW and getting more in depth with editing using Adobe Lightroom or Aperture. The difference it can make to that one picture in the hundred you took that you actually like can be huge.

Fully agree, this is laziness and wilful ignorance of the reasons behind it being blocked to save a bit of work.

The lighting bar will have power, but connected to a dimmer somewhere in all likelihood - do you have a dedicated always-on power supply up there?

I'd have gone with a 650w T26/27, in fact I've never actually seen a quartet use a 500w T25! 650w really isn't that much power - if you have any ambient light I'd say that was the minimum you should use, 500w will disappear especially if you use any colour with it.

To be fair to ParentPay, we had a nightmare at first, but over the last 6 months it's been fault-free. The support now has a telephone number which gets answered every time and they have just released details of a big overhaul of the admin interface which looks very good indeed.

Looks nice, but it's not only prohibitively expensive for education but also very US-focused. You'll find very little that goes on in here for commercial use, we're (almost) all based in UK non-profit educational workplaces.

We did this, and after a month or two of activity they one by one lapsed into silence and most haven't had an update in over 6 months. I started removing them from the website when they got to three months without a tweet - nobody has ever noticed.
