Hi, I have a domain with 2 2008R2 DCs and 1 2012R2 DC. I noticed yesterday that my group policies were not applying and when I do a gpupdate /force I get replication errors. After a bit of digging it seems that only one of my 2008 servers has anything is sysvol and has a netlogon folder. My 2012 server has nothing either. I can't browse to the sysvol folder from a PC but I can from any server. I am seeing lots of GP errors in event viewer on the servers and PCs This is the PC error: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\contorso.local\SysVol\contorso.local\Policies\{597EB0BB-CBEF-4C71-AA2C-C32FCCAA1D07}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following: a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller. b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller). c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled. I've checked the firewall settings and it's ok so I'm struggling. I have ran a dcdiag /v /q on all 3 servers and all give errors. This is part of the dcdiag on the server with a working sysvol: Anyone able to offer me any help?

I have an issue with some new Toshiba laptops we have just bought for our school, I have to clone 40 of them and I would normally use WDS on our 2008 R2 server but it does not recognise the NIC. We can usually get around this by taking out the hard disk and putting it onto an older PC but in this instance the Toshiba is a sealed unit. I stopped using Ghost a few years ago as it started to blue screen on a lot of newer kit. I have downloaded a trial of Ghost and it has worked but I'm unsure of the license situation, surely I don't need a license for each laptop? Any help or advice would be appreciated, an option is to build a 2012 server which I would if I knew it would solve the problem.

Hi all, hopefully this is the correct place to ask a few questions about this software! I have had very little to do with the flexi system in school as it was installed by someone before me. It was installed on a standalone PC which until recently had worked fine until Monday when the hard disk died leaving me with no access to it at all. I have reinstalled the software on another PC but now I have to manually input every staff member and print of a new security pass etc. I have kind of got this far in that I have designed a new pass and set myself up but I can't get the bar code reader to recognise my pass. If you are familiar with the product you will know what I mean but the bar code is linked to each individual staff member and I'm not sure how to get this part of it working. My reader is installed and recognises that there is a bar code but does nothing with it. How do I link the staff to an individual bar code and how do I get this to register on my system so the reader can update the system when a user arrives or departs? I have contacted the company but as we do not have a support contract they are unwilling to help. Cheers

The problems we have is that the school wants to use it with camcorders and not webcams as they want to be able to zoom in etc to make more professional animations. We can't connect the camcorders via usb and have to use capture cards inbetween the camcorder and the laptop. Sometimes they work fine, sometimes you need to unplug the capture card then plug it back in again before you get a picture and sometimes we don't get a picture at all, just a black screen. We cannot get any help from SMP and we are using the cards they advise on their website.

We have used MM in the past but were after something a bit more professional. SMP has been great until we moved to Windows 7 and now it is really unreliable.

Morning guys, I am looking for a new package for animation, we currently use SMP but we find the support to be non existent and we are having lots of issues with it so we would like to try something else. We currently use it on our laptops with camcorders but I am open to anything really, we have iPads in schools so that could be a solution. What would you recommend? Thanks John

System had full control so I didn't think it could be this especially as the gpresults say the policy was applied....I gave everyone full control just out of interest and it has worked...I don't believe. Cheers mate John

Please help.... I manage 7 sites and they are pretty much all set up in the same way but I have a strange problem at one of my sites which is driving me mad. I push out Java, Flash and Meraki via GP and it works at all my other sites apart from one. At the problematic site it fails to install the software on any PC whether it is Windows 7 or XP, the thing is though that as it is booting up it looks at the policy and even tells me it is installing managed software but this is only displayed for a couple of seconds. Gpresults looks fine too, see below. Also, if I browse to the deploy folder I can install the software so the path is fine. Anoter issue at this site is pushing out a desktop to all clients but all other policies are fine and are applied. I encountered a strange problem in one of my schools this morning, scenario is server 2008, Window 7 SP1...anyway, if I log in as pupil then try to log off the pc looks like it is going to log you out but then it just displays a black screen although I can still see the mouse and move it around the screen. I cannot access task manager etc so have to power it off to regain control, if I log in as an administrator or a teacher it works fine. I can also connect to the pcs (it is every one in the suite) using AB Tutor and reboot them. I am at a loss as to what this could be as nothing has changed on my group policy and I haven't installed any new software.

no I'm not redirecting anything, the save location when I'm logged in is C:\Users\administrator.AMBLELINKSCUR\Documents\SavedGames\Boku\Player1

Hi Steve, I have tried this and it makes no difference at all, it is still saving on the C: drive. The only way I can get it to save on the network is to manually change the path but as I said this only works for the user you are logged in as. There must be a file you can edit somewhere to overide the settings so it works for all users John

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the default save location for this product for all users? I know there is the configuration tool where you can alter the save location but that only works for the user you are logged in as at the time. I need it to be able to saved to each user's home folder. Thankls

Hi Beany, Thanks for the reply, I think you have a later version than us though I am not at the site to check, I resolved it yesterday but had to removed my printer deployed by GP, delete all the profiles on each pc and then install it via a tcp/ip port. Very frustrating. I also had a problem saving from it into a shared area, it gave me an error saying I did not have permission although if I open Word I can save to it without a problem. The product is rubbish in my opinion but to be fair is getting on a bit but the school wants to keep it. John

Hi, thanks for the reply. It is rubbish on window 7, I would guess that at least half don't work on any given day but they are never the same ones or same account. I have mailed the supplier to see if they have an update as it is old software. I thought it also could be the way the printer is rolled out so I installed a tcp/ip printer and even logged in as admin the icon was greyed out and yet if I look in Printers I have 2 listed and can print to them from everything else...so annoying.

We have a problem with Revelation Natural Art in our suite since we moved to Windows 7, it is really weird but some of the machines show the print icon, some don't. All will print from other programs though, I understand this is a Win 7 bug though. I have looked at Smoothdraw but I am unable to print from that either, I have no print icon and nothing on the File menu....am I being stupid here guys? The only way i can print is to save it as a jpeg, open it in something else and it prinjts no problem.Printer is a Sharp 2600n and it is added via GP. Are there any free package you would recommend that allow printing, I have looked through the thread on art packages on the homepage but none are really suitable. Thanks John

Cheers mate, I think I have pretty much everything in place to crack on, I have a dedicated 2008 R2 server, I think the ports needed are all open already as I asked the firewall guys at Durhamnet to open everything necessary for VPN. If you have the docs I would appreciate the help though John

If I was to use such a utility how do I stop people hacking the server as it has a public ip, obviously it will be patched, have a complex password, disable RDP etc Can you point me in the direction of some documentation on setting this up please

Cheers guys, I will do a bit of research on both of these later I just want the quickest and easiest solution that I can get up and running but which is secure too I don't really want to visit each teacher's home if I can avoid it, our ISP is Durhamnet and they are pretty flexible about opening ports so that swhouldn't be a problem Thanks

what kind of hardware would I need, is it difficult to set up?

Hi guys, this is my first post on here so be gentle :-) One of my schools (Primary) has been looking for a remote connection solution for a while and I looked at logmein and gotomypc but they are way too expensive. I have built a 2008 R2 server to use as a remote desktop connection, had the necessary ports opened up on the firewall by our ISP and also have a public ip for it. I have tried it and I can now RDP to it from home which allows me to hop onto any pc in school if I want to. I have switched the server off now as I am very nervous about being hacked as it's obviously out there in the public domain. Have any of you done anything like this or even found another way to do this, basically the staff need access to their class pc from home, they need more than just data. Can you advise how I can make the server as secure as possible or is it a no go and not worth the risk? Thanks
