  1. I've tried sifting through both filemon and regmon but haven't found anything after a quick look and I don't have the time tonight..that's why I was asking here. There are a lot of swf files on the CD and it's only by opening them one at a time that I can find the one that would be opened though the main viewing application. I could embed direct links to the file in a webpage or a word doc perhaps.
  2. The CD contains an exe which is a shell for a flash program (basically a browser showing a couple of webpages in effect) that simply loads (and displays) swf files from the CD using a simple menuing system. I don't know why admin rights are needed to simply run from the CD - is there a simple solution? A work around, configuration? It amazes me that an edu.book publisher doesn't realise that staff will not have this level of access on a classroom PC. Is the reg written to? Do temporary files need to be written? What is the cause?
  3. The school network has about 32 machines (16 in the suite) and currently there is about 50G of data that needs to be backed up. The LEA are suggesting we should install a 250G tape drive and possible upgrade the server. We currently backup using a tape drive. I wondered what the other options are - to hard drives, to a remote server using a BB connection - one company I worked for used a system of removable drives. I'm on the periphery at the moment. I don't know how the server is setup, I don't know what the RAID configuration is, etc. Apologies if this is too general a question but what are the most cost effective options to support a system that can backup weekly? A 250G drive shouldn't cost much but until I enquire further (this week) by talking to the ICT co-ord I don't know what is being proposed - frankly I doubt the co-ord will really have a very clear understanding either. When the school is experiencing financial difficulties that are now affecting job security I'm obviously interested to know that money is being spent wisely. How do we establish what the most cost effcetive solution is for our system - I imagine it is a fairly familiar situation.
  4. Hi - I just started at a new school with a newly appointed ICT co-ordinator...talk about blind leading the blind..anyhow. A couple of very basic questions: 1) From RM Management Console 2.204.0.0 how do you grant a user permission to run task manager (to kill off badly behaved software when it locks the machine up). 2) How do you install software on a particular users machine that requires admin rights to install? Obviously logging in as the staff user will not allow that but there's no point in logging in as the admin either. Do you temporarily change their permissions to Domain Admin level, install and then reset to Staff level? I did say they would be really really basic questions. cheers
