This is me at 09:30 i sign upto a education IT support forum with a NON EDUCATIONAL PROBLEM. Ive started writing this so i`ll finish, if you can help me out with this it would be grand...If not i can copy and paste this problem into other forums.
I am having trouble with my works network at present. We moved our offices to a new location at the start of this week and i have had to move the network. Since moving i am unable to get it to work as it was before.
The networks set up is.
1 x Win2k3 server running our internal SQL databse.
1 x Win2k3 server running as a webserver for our customers to view there information (obtained via internal sql server)
4 x Win XP stations
An ADSL Line
See attached image for visual guide
The main problem we are having is, we can have the network running in 2 states either where the xp machines can see the internal server or they can see the adsl modem.
I am sure this is an IP issue for the states there is 2 ip address variations. if the IP address`s are 192.168.0.xxx they can see the interal server but if its 192.168.1.xxx then it see`s the modem. The server has a 192.168.0.xxx ip address. If i change all the IP and Default Gateways to match the 192.168.1.xxx i can not see the server but the server can connect to the internet.
I have never attempted to do much with networks running servers just my small 4 pc home network.
Would it be wise to try and introduce a new IP variation (192.168.2.xxx)???
I have tried both manually configuring the ips manually and running them on automatic detection rebooting after changes but nothing to the effect of getting this system working again
