Hi All, Just wondered instead of re-writing the wheel, does anyone have an example template of a student laptop loan form we could use and edit appropriately. The laptops are for use by the students at home and at school. Thanks.

Get any users Archive .pst back into outlook and remove any emails/folders out of deleted items like some of our teachers think is a safe place for storing important messages !!!

We VLAN'd off users and found that we had to create a new group called guests but not opening the guest portal to do this as we wanted transparent proxies to be used. We found Smoothwall were very helpful when setting it up.

Looks like windows firewall was playing up on our SIMS server, we have now redone it and voila ! Uninstall of 3.5.20 and reinstall of new Solus3 3.6.94 worked !
-
With any new computers these are now saying install failed The remote machine cannot be contacted. We have deleted it from dns ran a flush, reregistered it, you can ping it fine and find it on the network through Solus3 ?
-
Problem with upgrading clients from 3.5.20 - 3.6.94. The vast majority have automatically updated but there's about 20 which we are having to manually update. This has only become an issue since we have re-installed SIMS on Server 2012 with SQL 2012, upgrades are fine but Agent upgrades are not we have been told this could be a DNS issue but we have been 'flushing' and this has not helped!!
-
That doesn't work for me or another user it just keeps bringing up the one instance of SIMS? this is on a windows 7 x64 desktop
-
Is this something you are doing where you are. The main reason I'm concerned is that supposedly Attix5 had a 'official' SIMS plugin that would back up the users?
-
Hi All, We are looking into a backup solution not just for our network as a whole but also SIMS which was using Attix5 but we would like to move away from the 'Capita Approved' product and use our own solution we would have to use ARCServe or Symantec Backup Exec (but that doesn't run on Server 2012!) as we have a Synology NAS that will only allow either of those 2 products to backup to it. ARCServe came in cheapest and seems very easy but I haven't had any confirmation that it would backup SIMS successfully or not and wondered if anyone on here had been able to with either positive or negative remarks and how you found it?

A little nervous 2003 32bit Ranger pdc - 2012 vanilla.

At what point will the new server get the same DNS is that when you transfer the FSMO roles and how do I go about checking that DNS is pointing to the new server? -

Looks like a new policy has been filtered down that changes the password of Administrator to the local password? but a restart at lunchtime should see whether this is the case. It appears it was -

I have a bizarre update for this and it is already posted on the Server 2003 forum regarding the Administrator password resetting itself to something else but the problem has now been copied to the 2012 Server! -

Can this not be copied across? As I thought that maybe transferring the FSMO(?) details would then bring the details across or is there the possibility of migrating the details? -
Hi All, I have now purchased my new PDC and have server 2012 installed, which was a bit of a nightmare even though we had HP's 'Intelligent Provisioning' which I found wasn't that 'Intelligent' after all! The problem I have is that to save me time I would like it virtually (not in the IT sense) running before I go to switch off my current server that is running Windows Server 2003 32bit and Ranger, AD is installed and is showing our current policies and is seen as a member server, it is asking to be promoted to a domain controller. Will this cause any issues for users logging on? How do I transfer DHCP, DNS etc but not affect users logging on using Ranger, can they be run concurrently and at what stage and what do I need to do to remove the win 2003 server as we are removing Ranger and going it alone with a little help from Impero, would it also make sense to have Impero on the DC or another member server instead, would this impeed logon speed?

Moving away from Ranger to Impero as a solution?
grahamd22 replied to grahamd22's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Looks like we will move toward GPO's (mandatory profile) although its going to take sometime to get them just right, just playing around with them but need a lot of tweaks for the registry ! I noticed Impero do a bulk creation tool but no exchange or mass deletion of profile, home drive and mailbox . Do you have any further info on AD Infinitum? -
Hi All, We currently run Ranger from a vanilla system it closed the annoying loopholes students found and made a lot of the day to day fire fighting stress disappear. Having looked into Impero we were very impressed as we are using Ranger remote control, Policycentral, PCounter and of course to keep uptodate with them is very expensive the only thing it appears to be missing is the tool to lock down pupil workstations and loopholes on the network? Would I still need to do this in AD and what should I be looking to use to create users easily with mailboxes?

we only use webmail.warwick.surrey.sch.uk so would one cert be ok? Our county haven't signed up to JANET yet and tbh they would take far too long to get it arranged. Would this be advisable GODADDY as the cost is great at £8.50 but I have to say I've headed towards ipsCA iis 7 .... what are your thoughts?
-
Just spoke to JANET and its the same for segfl (surrey) they haven't singed up for the certs either and they are very slow at getting anything done especially if we are the only school that are looking into it!
-
Hi guys just got our exchange 2010 server up and running but couldn't get our ipsCA certs working from exchange 2003 so looking into certs right now and the link was great for cheap pricing from godaddy, just wondered how you went about getting it working with your exchange server as I would like the iphones to work with it, will the £8.99 surfice? or £25 for 5 domains as I don't quite understand autodiscover etc we just want it for owa?
