Have you looked into Impero? It is solely software. The server and workstation bits run as services and the console portion runs as an executable. It comes with a distribution tool that allows you to push the workstation client out to your workstations so no need to package to roll out using other methods. Allows you to set up either blocked resources or allow only ones. You can stop users from logging in more than once (admins can be exempt). You can block resources in real time......... One school I work for recently installed a laser link. It seems to work wel but the lovely children keep kicking a ball at it and mis-align it. The installing company charge £600 to come and re-align it. The school have now had a cage installed around it. I'm sure the little darlings will work out how to throw a blazer over it at some point.

Two schools that I work for trialled it. One school took it up as a useful tool the other school decided that the annual subscription was too high. They are happy with the tool they use Impero Software and they get it for a one off payment, like most software.

If you go to the user's software restrictions as described above set some path rules like these: d:\ Path Disallowed e:\ Path Disallowed h:\ Path Disallowed l:\ Path Disallowed p:\ Path Disallowed v:\ Path Disallowed This allows users to access data etc from the blocked locations but EXEs can't be run. It works well for us. We do it at an OU level so we can be flexible for different levels of user.
