Hiya... several weeks ago the school (against my will) purchased 16 iPad2s, Sync/Charging cabinet, Mac Mini server and a Macbook (all part of a bundle from a company that shall not be named because of their very poor after care service....well not the company itself but the Sales 'manager' i had to deal with...but thats a different story for a different day) anyway back on track.... the main issues that I faced was that the ipads couldnt surf the internet and look at 'wiki' pages on the mac server at the same time. This was due to conflicts with EMBC and proxy settings etc. To get round the embc/proxy conflict, I installed Squidman on the Mac server. using this program you can set proxies and exceptions here. The ipad setting for the proxy is made to look at the IP address allocated to the Mac server on port 8080. Within Squidman the normal embc proxy gumpf is entered. Been testing for 2 days and it has been working with no problems. Regarding apps etc... The way I got around this was to use the Macbook to control the iPads. Macbook has iTunes installed and via USB it is connected the Sync/Charge cabinet. Once iTunes is launched, any apps downloaded for free or purchased, automatically sync to all the iPads. Hope that this makes some sense as it did in my head but to me its very very early in the morning lol Cheers Cookie

I forgot to add that if I choose print supply status from the display menu it prints fine. Just doesn't print anything from a pc/laptop across the network. I first suspected the print spooler on the server but other printers on the network are functioning fine.

Hi all, I am facing an odd problem. We have several HP CLJ 3505n on site, printing is managed by the domain controller. All printers are functioning fine apart from one. The display on the printer says 'ready' however when looking at Printers (and Devices) on my Vista workstation and the 2008 R2 server it says out of paper. However, the tray 2 is about 3/4 full of plain paper. I have tried turning off and turning on again to no avail. The driver on the server is a HP generic PCL 6 driver and these work fine with the other printers. Does any one have any further idea? Many thanks in advance Cookie

User reset password to one of her choice, rebooted, logged on and still worked a-ok im blaming gremlins. Many thanks to you all for your input and advise. Very much appreciated.

any quick fix that wont affect the current settings or email setup?

** update ** User has just advised me that she changed her password before going home last night. .....

Hi Richard, Just have the 1 Domain controller. im worried that deleting/removing file and profile data will have a bad knock on effect to her emails. (had a few issues with her email about 2 weeks ago) Her outlook 2010 is configured to the exchange server at EMBC.... she has lots of calander and contact entries....would these be stored locally? and if i remove her profile from the PC or remove the computer from the domain, what will happen to these files?
-
will give that a go shortly....anything else to delete/rename?
-
she has logged off and on, rebooted her pc a few times. No joy. The server hasnt been turned off or rebooted for several weeks. No other users (pcs on XP or vista) have this problem, just her on that one PC. With it coming the end of the financial year and this term...she is mega busy and needs a fix for this....and so do I Lol she has no problems accessing the drives from the SIMS server, just the drives on the Domain Controller on this problematic pc ...
-
when i tried it prompted the user for the user name and password.... this is only happening on her pc.... the other two Win 7 machines in the office are exactly the same build..... is there a local profile record that I can delete that can fix the problem?
-
she has changed her password but that was a day or two ago (i think) on the PC she is having issues with. She is also a local admin on her pc if that helps.....

Morning all, I have a strange issue (well strange to me anyway) This morning the Office Manager/Bursar told me that her drives are not mapping over and have red crosses on them. If she tries to access 'StaffPublic' for example it will prompt her for her username and password, which has never happened before. The user is a SIMS user and has a SIMS profile. The logon script for this user also maps across a drive that only she and the Head have access to. PC is a windows 7 x64, connecting to a Windows server 2008 R2 domain controller. The user has logged onto another machine in the office and the drives etc map over as she would expect (both a Win 7 pc and a XP laptop), however her PC has the finance applications she needs. I have logged on her machine as my test SIMS user and that works a-ok. No new applications have been added in the last 2 months and it was functioning correctly last night. It safe to say the the issue is local to her machine.... but how do I fix it? I hope this makes sense...and thanks in advance for your help Cookie

is that another apple rumour or does this have some clout?

we have just ordered a 16 ipad 2 bundle from solutions-inc for a large amount of cash. Apart from the 16 ipad 2s (16gb wifi), we will also get a mac mini server, macbook, storage/charging unit which is shock/fire/water proof, specialist installation and setup, 1 full days training, 3 year applecare on all hardware, apple pages, apple keynote, apple numbers, vga adaptor and £50 gift card I was advised that any apps purchased (inc free ones) can be installed on upto 5 devices. then if more are required, you 'gift' another 5 'licences' to yourself till your capacity/requirements are met. i assume that the server or the macbook will have itunes installed and then the ipads should sync over wifi....... i hope that makes some sort of sense ta Cookie

thanks for the pointer Andie... i only have 5 win 7 clients, 1 vista business (not my choice) and the other 150+ are 32bit XP clients.........

ahh yes i forgot to mention that there is a konica minola photocopier on the network but is very very rarely used to print to from a computer. and only 6 people have access to print to it. any other suggestions?

Hi again... More printer related issues this time... Randomly....printing suddenly stops on our network. I can look at the queues for the various printers, new items can get added but items do not fall off if delete is selected. We have a selection of HP3505 (x86 and x64 universal drivers (PCL6) installed used by x86 XP clients) and a HP2055 (x64 universal driver (PCL6 v5.2) only as only Win 7 x64 clients access this). On the server I have often restarted RPC and the print spooler, but more often than not I get a time out error 1585 (or something similar) I have looked at event viewer on the server but cannot see any irregular errors or any other clues. This has been happening for some time and is now getting frustrating. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem? Many thanks in advance Cookie

i have searched the HP website in vain for x64 driver that work with 2008 R2...

it happens randomly morning, noon and and night regardless of if one is on site or logged onto the network. been through menus etc on the printers but cant find owt if it was 1 printer then i wouldnt be to bother but as its all of them.....its a concern also i cant change the driver to PCL5 or 6.?? as they refuse to print in colour.... ta
