Hey..sorry I don't have an answer for you but I'm having exactly the same problem. Works beautifully until I come to set the location for the image to be stored and then I lose all the text. The GUI basically falls apart. Looks like it may be a chipset issue. Our machines are using exactly the same ones as yours Sparkeh. Anyone else got any suggestions?

We've just given our Nursery a new digital camera to use. When they plug it into their office machine via USB, the computer recognises that a camera has been plugged in and it launches the autoplay window where you would usually select the program you would like to use the camera with (Scanner & Camera wizard etc). Our problem is that the autoplay window doesn't list any apps. It's just blank. Does anyone know what's going on and how to get around this? Many thanks.

Our network is running the latest version of Ranger. We have one machine that does not show the ranger toolbar when you login as administrator. All the others load it with no trouble. Is there something that I can do to make sure it loads when the computer is used? Thanks

I've got a network running ranger and when a user goes to save or open in any program, Ranger kicks in and redirects the dialog to the user's documents folder. This is great for saving things but we've got some software that has resources kept in an alternative location and when you try to open them, Ranger keeps sending you to your documents. Does anyone know of a way to turn this feature off in Ranger? I'm sure i've seen it somewhere but for the life of me I can't find it again. Thanks everyone

I'm trying to make a template file in Openoffice writer for our staff lesson planning. Is there a way that I can lock tables and text so that the staff can't edit them etc. Thanks

At the moment we have Ranger setup with a general shared area for everybody. Pupil and staff users can read and only admins can write. Can somebody tell me if it is possible for staff and admins to have write access to the shared folder and if so, how you go about doing it. I'm sure it's really simple but I can't seem to get it to work. I've setting the correct permissions on the folder itself but when I login as a staff user, I still only get read access. Sorry for posting. Was missing something and it's all sorted now with the right permissions on the folder.

I work in small primary school and we have just one 25 machine computer room. The computers in there are around 5 years old now and I was wondering at what age (and spec) people on here would start looking at replacing machines? Just as a side note, I've heard a lot of good things regarding thin client. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for your help

Thanks for the replies. I've been reading around these forums for ages and I think i'm making things harder than they actually are. There are a couple of other things that I'm curious about. I've read a number of posts that you should disconnect the machine from the domain before you sysprep and image it. Is this true? Do you also tend to create an image with all the software included or just of the basic windows install with drivers and then roll out software packages afterwards? Sorry for all the newbee questions. Just don't want to go in next week and screw everything up. Thanks again, Sam

Can anyone point me to a decent tutorial on how to create a model pc in order to create a Ghost image? I've "inherited" the management of a small network at a primary school. All of the clients are XP Pro and the server is 2000. I've been reading around the forum for a while and quite a few people say that they reimage their workstations to keep them running nicely. I'd really like to give this a go to save time but i've never done it before and i'm not sure the best way of going about preparing a pc for imaging (eespecially when sysprep is involved). Thanks for the reply..there are going to have to be a couple of users updating it. I can create as many SQL databases as I need so if that helps.

Can you embed a google calendar into a website though? I need to continue the site's style and colour scheme.

Hi Guys, I'm interested to see what you guys think about this. I have a static html website running no CMS at all. I need to add a calendar of upcoming events and dates that can be easily updated by a non technical user. Has anyone done that kind of thing before and if so, how did you do it? I've thought about creating a single page joomla site but it seems like overkill. Thanks

Thanks guys...I'll check them all out and see what I can find. My big issue was with getting a really user friendly solution where the staff can really easily dump photos into the right location.

Don't get me wrong Cybernerd....I use gallery on the website and it works fine. I installed it on the network and when I got to the 10,000 photo mark, it just seemed a little cumbersome (I know that 10,000 is a lot so what should I expect). I was just wondering if anyone knew of another way of doing this? We can't be the only school producing tons of photos. How do other people get around it?

Hi everyone. I work at a small prep school that has built up quite an impressive archive of photos over the 200+ years it has been in existance. Add onto that the sheer number of photos produced by our current staff and I have a bit of a problem. At present I have close to 60,000 images. I've got them stored on their own server but at the moment, they are just in a simple folder structure. Does anyone have any great ideas on how I could organise/manage these? I really need the staff to be able to dump new photos onto the system without having to come to me. I have toyed with setting up Gallery 2 to run through our intranet but I never feel that it is particularly robust.

I agree with what Anti has said. I've been playing with Project Alumni for a while and it seems to work great. My only real complaint is that there is currently no skinning system so you have to accept what it looks like. However, according to their forums, this feature will be on the cards in the not too distant future.
