Hi All, I just want to find out how you manage to keep your laptops up-to date with Windows Updates etc. How do you overcome the issues when the laptops are shut down after school and you can't push updates to them? We have over 200 laptops around the school so walking around and turning them all on is not really ideal. How are your updates configured, we currently have it so the updates install at 3pm. I have noticed on some occasions that when laptops are turned on the pupils have to wait as it's finishing configuring the updates, which can impact the lesson. Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated. Garerg

Thank you for your reply guys. I tried TestDisk and it worked a treat. Recovered all the work from the memory stick without any issues. Only downside is that it doesn't keep the file names but that's not the end of the world. Many Thanks again, Gareth

Hi All, I hope this is posted in the correct place. I am looking into Data Recovery Software as I get many pupils and staff who bring their memory sticks to me saying they either deleted work or work got corrupt. I have been using 'MiniTool Power Data Recovery' for free which seems to work fine, but now I have to pay for it. Before I go ahead and possibly pay for it I just want to hear from other people on what recovery software they use and if they would recommend it. Many Thanks in advance. Gareth

Hi All, I am in the process of testing software for Windows 10 on our network and I have come to a complete halt with VNC. I have installed VNC on my test machine and I am able to remotely login to it and also take control of the mouse and keyboard. The problem I am getting is when it comes to blanking the screen. When I blank the screen, my test machine goes blank which it should do, but on my computer I can see it locks my test machine which means I am locked out the computer. As it is my test machine I can unlock the computer, but as soon as I move the mouse or do anything on the computer remotely it instantly locks the machine again. We have been using UVNC on the network since Windows XP and I have tried many different versions of the software so I would assume it's not an issue with the software, unless with Windows 10 UVNC needs to be set-up differently. When I install UVNC, on the client machines we install the 'Server Only' option and we then tick 'Register UltraVNC server as a system service' and 'Start or restart UltraVNC service' in the set-up wizard. Once the software has installed I go into the Admin Properties and 'Configure MS Logon Groups' and 'Disable the tray icon'. If you have any suggestions, input or maybe I'm installing it wrong then I would be grateful for your input. Many Thanks in advance. Gareth

Thanks for the reply. As were new with all apple technology can you advise the best way to set it all up? We want it all legal and all the accounts not to have a card linked to the accounts. As of yet we will be getting 35 iPads and in the future maybe alot more. So how would I go about it to create accounts for each individual iPad? Thanks Wilson

I didn't know you had to have an authorized person to do all the gifting? Does this only apply to the USA or would it apply to the UK as well? See there is things like this I wouldn't know because were new to all this. So have you not made multiple accounts for the iPad's? So you haven't received that warning message before? Wilson

Hi Bean, I thought that was the legal way in which to set up the iPad's. Each iPad will have a separate account and then you purchase the apps for the iPad's individually? At the moment we are in the process of buying 35 iPad's with the possibility of another 50 within the next couple of weeks. How I have done it so far is on Active Directory I have made 35 accounts. I would then log on to each account individually on the computer and set up an apple account, then if I wanted an app for a specific iPad I would gift the app to that email address and sync it that way. But now all of a sudden when I am trying to create the accounts I am getting the error message that's stated in the 1st post. We as the school are relatively new to iPad's so if I am doing it wrong then maybe you can point me in the right direction Many Thanks Wilson

Hi All, We are awaiting delivery of a number of iPad's so I though I would plan ahead and starting making Apple ID's ready for when they arrive. The way I do it is exactly as is on the apple forums. Go onto iTunes, click the app store, find a free app, click download and then create a new account that way. We do it that was because we don't want to link a card to the accounts. Everything was going ok until I wanted to make my 5th account. When I click to create the account I get a error message in red saying 'Please contact iTunes to complete the transaction'. I have contacted iTunes but they are not helping me as yet because they just said follow the steps to create an account on their forums, which I have already done. So what I want to know is, has anyone else had that same problem when making multiple accounts on one computer? Many Thanks in advance Wilson

Thank you for the reply guys. We don't have any yet in the school, we are looking at getting a few test Ipads to see how they work within our school. I have had a look around the forum at different uses for the Ipad. In our school we block access to YouTube (request from the Head) so that's one use we can use the Ipads for. I do see people that find useful apps for the Ipad but that's the only benefit i really see in using them. Is there anyone who does have Ipads in school that do find them really beneficial in the teaching environment? If so what do you use them for? Many thanks Wilson

Hi Guys, We are looking at getting Ipad's in our school and I have a few questions that I am hoping you can help me with. 1. Can you configure the IPad so it has a Static IP Address instead of using DHCP? 2. Also are you able to force it through a proxy so we can filter the internet? Many Thanks in Advance Wilson
