  1. For various reasons, we have never in 2.5 years done the SLG upgrade before Sims. Not caused us any problems.
  2. Right, so I think the answer is - tomorrow I am going to be assertive. I will get techies to check and double check (again) solution 4. It's no good them saying nothing is wrong with our set up when plainly there is. Thanks for your help all, I suppose I wanted some backup before I speak to them again!
  3. For info, this was the original solution from Capita: Thank you for your query. Alot of schools have reported this problem since upgrading, please could I ask you refer to the following: Solution Ref: KB31300 Workstations do not perform automatic upgrade after the SQL Database upgrade NOTES ·****** Workstations do not perform automatic upgrade after the Database upgrade. ·****** Workstations not upgrading to latest version ·****** When running SIMS .net on a workstation it does not automatically upgrade and SIMS .net remains at the old version. ·****** SIMSLoad.exe is present and correct in the shortcut for SIMS .net AFFECTED PRODUCTS AND VERSIONS SIMS .net Installation & Upgrade ADVICE FIX 1 Correct or add the line in the SIMS.INI to point to the correct location of the SETUPS folder. The SIMS.ini file is located in the Windows folder (C:\Windows). FIX 2 * Remove and Re-install SIMS .net on the affected workstations. For further details, please see KB25581 FIX 3 * RM CC3 ONLY Please refer to Solus Overview open the technical guide and search for HKEY.* This shows what access is needed. * In addition, write access is needed to Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Program Files\SIMS Applications for short cuts. NB: CC3 may need an install package to allow these to be added - for further details please refer to RM. * FIX 4 * Run SIMSLoad.exe from the SIMS .net folder (C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net\SIMSLoad.exe) * The SIMS .net shortcut on the machine is missing the SIMSLoad.exe from the target i.e. * "C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net\SIMSLoad.exe" "C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net\Pulsar.exe" Public Notes: The following line from the SIMS.INI, that references the SETUPS folder, is either missing or pointing to the wrong location. SIMSSetupsDirectory=S:\SIMS\Setups If it is missing, it is because the workstation has been setup by running the installation files individually i.e. - SIMSInfrastructureSetup.exe - SIMSApplicationSetup.exe - SIMSManualSetup.exe If it is setup this way then certain lines are not added to the SIMS.INI. ADDITIONAL NOTES Ensure that new workstations are set up for SIMS using S:\SIMS\SETUPS\SIMSInst.exe The comment that lots of schools have experienced this infuriates me. We ended up reinstalling Sims on quite a Number of machines for Spring. Surely we shouldn't have to do this. Trouble is, I'm stuck in the middle. As 'Sims person' I'm the one the teachers come to. I provided Capita's solution and am told our set up matches their instructions, but I'm not technical so can't argue the case. Piggy in the middle me!
  4. Creese - I went through Programs as in the old days I was told always to do that after an upgrade - does that still mean shortcut? Matt - thanks, that looks very similar to the info I sent the techies that Capita advised last upgrade. He did tell me all was ok as per the info, (it's blatantly not with a 50% fail rate so far). All machines definitely have dotnet4. Solus 3 has been the longest protracted installation and despite a considerable amount of input from Stephen at Capita, we were never able to deploy. We have now uninstalled and re-downloaded but not installed the client on staff machines. We don't have reg, the marks write back from lesson 1, so paper registers are not easy. In fact, the more I think about it, I may have to stay at home tomorrow!!
  5. Hmmm, thing is though, I was the person who ran it on the techies machine after the upgrade (to test). I went in through Start, Programs etc, and as soon as I opened Sims, I got the log in screen, was never asked to run the upgrade...
  6. So we upgraded tonight. Last upgrade caused havoc in the school with Incompatible Database errors from half the staff laptops. Capita did send an explanation after the event saying there was an issue with some computers not running the upgrade. Techies looked at the explanation again tonight before upgrade and said that we had everything in place that Capita recommends. Mine and Attendance Officers upgraded ok. IT technician & 1 teacher have already reported incompatible DB. Dreading tomorrow morning! Anyone have any advice I can pass on to avert chaos?
  7. If you are thinking of using a comms package there is a quick way. We use school comms which gives us a bounce report for each outgoing email. When we went live I sent a test email to validate addresses. If you back that up with a text, you can also ask parents to check for email and alert you if not received. Worked well with our new year 7 parents this year.
  8. I had similar problem, although I can print multiple profiles as long as I select them all at once. If I then select another for reprint, nothing happens. Rebooting machine allows me to print another. Case logged with Capita but answer very frustrating as I got the normal spiel about making sure tags were all correct, template verified etc. Even though I had printed 350 full profiles successfully but couldn't select lone ones for re-printing.
