Hey Nick, Replaced the dll and now I get some pop-up errors On creating a booking, I get an "Internal Server Error" - the booking is created, just not displayed. On deleting a booking I now get an "Unauthorised" error. I can repeat the above with a firebug view, but I won't be back in the office till lunch time. Cheers, Matt

Operations at https://portal.site.org.uk/hap/api/bookingsystem This page describes the service operations at this endpoint. Uri Method Description /Booking/{Date} DELETE Service at https://portal.site.org.uk/hap/api/bookingsystem/Booking/{DATE} POST Service at https://portal.site.org.uk/hap/api/bookingsystem/Booking/{DATE} /Initial/{Date}/{Username} GET Service at https://portal.site.org.uk/hap/api/bookingsystem/Initial/{DATE}/{USERNAME} /LoadRoom/{Date}/{Resource} GET Service at https://portal.site.org.uk/hap/api/bookingsystem/LoadRoom/{DATE}/{RESOURCE} I have logged in and the system does recognise me as such.. is there a particular way that you want me to check this? Should something be displayed on the link above? Cheers again for your patience! Matt Sorry - our posts crossed in the ether! - Will replace that DLL when i get in to work (in a couple of hours) and post back

Hi Nick - sorry to start another thread - but my queries were cluttering up and getting lost in another conversation.. I noticed a problem with the old v6.5 site today in that it didn't skip a week for half-term and reported this week as week 1 instead of 2 (7.6 reports as week 2 with the same data). So, i have hurriedly switched over to 7.6 on the live site and corrected all my booking clashes. My problem is that certain operations just aren't working for me with the 7.x versions and from previous discussions i think you thought it may be JSON related. Description: Trying to delete my own booking as an admin user. I get a pop-up "Question, are you sure..." I click "Yes", the pop-up vanishes and nothing else happens. The booking remains undeleted. A previous thread that you directed me too suggested installing firefox/firebug. Which i did.. The info i got was: Any suggestions what i can do next to establish the cause of my issue? Cheers in advance! (P.S. Myfiles is looking really nice)

I had never noticed that. It's quite interesting! I wonder if there might be some scope in providing that as the default with a "RIGHT CLICK ME TO SAVE" link at the top? I haven't really thought it through though! I guess it would need a default action on each file-type - internal html viewer, external html viewer (i.e. send to google docs) or open in browser.. Right-click would become the way you downloaded it, if you didnt want the preview.. Which leads nicely into my other thread: I raised a query as to alternate ways of handling MS Office files as they are being "opened in the browser" within IE and stored in the temporary internet files. End users are editing and clicking save and loosing their work - I.E. doesn't give any indication that they are working on a "temporary" file. Anyway, you asked me to post this as a question in here so i have - Solution would be either "client-side", "server-side" or "manipulating the user interaction".. Matt (P.S. Very much looking forward to FAQ's!)

Internet Explorer Handling of Office Documents
mattgrimley replied to mattgrimley's topic in Home Access Plus+
It is unchecked as default - which allows the file to be opened in IE. It is stored in the cache (C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files) from the cache and does not prompt to save anywhere else. If i check that tickbox, it just screws up IE (often locking it up completely) and refuses to open or save the file anywhere I really do hate IE - but what can you do?! I'll transfer the question (with a link back here) to the "feature requests" thread, though i deliberately started a thread as its not an issue with HAP, rather with IE. There used to be a way of delivering a file as a save rather than an open(server side) (is it to do with mime types or something?) but i couldn't find any reference when i searched.. I guess the messiest / easiest solution of all would be to pop a nag/reminder evertime someone tries to open an effected filetype via IE. Thanks for feedback anyway! Matt -
I am getting a bit sick of Internet Explorer "opening" rather than "saving" Microsoft Office documents. It opens them in the "Temporary Internet Files" folder, staff make changes, click save and lose their work. Obviously in "some" circumstances the work is recoverable from browsing those folders, but i have a feeling that files opened from an SSL server might not be (not sure). I have read around it and i cant see any way of changing this behaviour client-side. Can it be changed server-side? Alternatively, can anyone think of a way of delivering the downloaded file with perhaps a nag to remind people to "SAVE" rather than "OPEN"? Of course Chrome and Firefox don't behave like this, but i need a solution for IE Cheers Matt

Firebug shows: "NetworkError: 401 Unauthorized - https://portal.site.sch.uk/hap/api/BookingSystem/Booking/1-11-2011"

It does work in ie9, but i have noticed sometimes it is a little slow loading - are you giving it enough time? Just be sure that you havent disabled the silverlight plugin (ie9 does nag about disabling plugins). Matt

Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (sp1) (64bit) - Is there anything i can do to test JSON?
-
hmm, i thought i had replied to this - sorry.. 1> Worked a treat - the ~/default.aspx from the full zip works fine 2> Hmmm, well... It appears to work as intended if the user account has an email address assigned. (My test staff user has no email account). Is this intentional? 3> To be clear: I open the ticket as admin, i click update. I enter some text and i click [update] again. The pop-up disapears, but no additional info is added to the ticket. If i click on update again, my text still appears in the pop-up window. If i refresh the page, it has not been appended to the ticket and it is no longer in the popup. Nothing has been written to the "Tickets.xml" file. Although i use Chrome primarily, this is all tested using Internet Explorer 9. Looking forward to the FAQ's - i was going to suggest allowing a ticket response to be flagged for use as an FAQ - it could be really really nice! Cheers

Doh! Wouldn't the world be a better place if they all just rendered the bloody same!!

v7.5 feedback These are all fairly related.. They are all to do with making / deleting an individual booking: 1> Member of staff can create a booking - but the page doesn't update to show it 2> Member of staff cannot remove their own booking - pop-up is displayed, but it doesn't actually remove 3> My Admin user cannot remove a staff-booking either - popup is shown, but it never deletes. (even with a page refresh) 4> Admin CAN over-ride but the page doesn't refresh to show it 5> Admin CANNOT Remove its own booking That's it for now! The Booking System Control Panel looks great - i'll give the SIMS import a shot in a bit
-
Hey Nick, Have installed 7.5 - it's amazing how much it has changed since 6.5!! It's looking so neat and tidy - i love it! The username=undefined variable is now written correctly - i noticed you also corrected a "priority=undefined" variable bug too which is great. Only a handful of issues this time! 1> From the homepage, select the "Tickets" tab and click on a ticket for a "404 - File or directory not found" - NB: I removed the files you listed as removable in your v7.5 notes so it is possible i have done something silly there... 2> When creating a new ticket as a user, you click on "File Ticket" but nothing appears to happen. In actual fact, the ticket HAS been filed. It is not then visible in your screen until you refresh the page too. 3> Updating a ticket as an admin doesn't seem to work - the window pops up, but nothing is written back on clicking okay. As always, thanks so much for all the hard work! Matt

Loads fine for me in Chrome, though some of the spacing on the percentage bars is off in IE9 (as is most of the rest of the internet though!) The tiles work visually really well Nick - i was sceptical!!
-
exactly that mate You are best however to backup your existing HAP folder before you start - Better to be safe than sorry!! (Just incase one of the config files is accidentally included in the upgrade zip file). (Just make sure you get the "upgrade" file, rather than the full zip)

Looking great for the drives.. Will the file/folder browser remain pretty much as is? I cant imagine 50 tiles would be an easy browsing session to trawl through!

sorry nick, i've been off the reservation for a couple of days.. is this published or pending the next release? (i'm not being pushy, i am still running 6.5 on my main site) Cheers, Matt

Some other food for thought: A simple F.A.Q system built into the help-desk would seem like a great idea to me. It would be similar in shape to the helpdesk, end users could simply be provided with a list, or a search facility. Admin would add each FAQ item as a separate ticket. Repsonses to helpdesk items could be directed at a specific FAQ Further down: There is quite a lot of growth in "cloud-based" applications. Google docs appears to offer some methods for integrating into 3rd party solutions. Im not at all sure how this works, but box.net allow me to edit a file stored in my box.net cloud storage using google docs. See (this youtube video). It would seem to good to be true, but the ability to build a sweet of freely available cloud-based editors / viewers into the file-browser would be massive! Matt

Hey Nick, Just moving a "help-desk" item from the "booking" thread to here. The ticket in question does indeed lack an attribute.. but it is the username rather than the id: jhffgg]]> If i change the "Username" attribute from "undefined" to a legitimate user it then works fine. As a seperate but not particularly serious issue; %20 is being saved (and displayed) in the subject title instead of a space. Cheers, Matt

My admin user shows the following in the source of the HTML: var user = { username: 'matt', isAdminOf: [ 'Agency', 'Bureau', '31' ], isBSAdmin: true, minDate: new Date(2011, 9, 11), maxDate: new Date(2012, 6, 20), maxBookings: -1 }; ; My test "Staff" user shows the following in the source of the HTML (they are the owner of the booked session): var user = { username: 'StaffUser', isAdminOf: [ ], isBSAdmin: false, minDate: new Date(2011, 9, 11), maxDate: new Date(2011, 11, 4), maxBookings: 5 }; To be more clear; As the test "Staff" user, i DO see a "remove" option on hover-over. When i click it, i get a "Are you sure.." pop-up. I Click okay and nothing else happens. Cheers, Matt (i'll post my other helpdesk issue in the helpdesk thread to avoid the clutter)

Hey again, I must say it's looking really really nice - cant wait to get it out to users!! FIXED - The navigation buttons being obscured is fixed. They have all shifted down now - plenty clear of the "Logged in as | Logout" button (confirmed in Ie9 and chrome) PARTIAL - The drop-down calendar appears below the date button in IE - which makes dismissing it fairly obvious (simply click the date again). However, in chrome, it obscures the date button still. Fixed in IE, Odd in Chrome. BUG - I remain unable to delete a booking either as a teacher or an admin - confirmed in both Chrome and IE TYPO in helpdesk/new.aspx - Raising a ticket as an admin - "Ticket for:" is "Ticker for:" There are some more issues with the helpdesk which i will try and get some more useful troubleshooting to you.. At the moment staff cant add tickets to mine and it is now crashing the default.aspx page with "Index was outside the bounds of the array". I'll post more on this once i have played with it a bit more! (It wasnt crashing earlier, so im gonna see if there is anything odd in the xml file)

Hey Nick, It's looking great I like the uniform navigation (The blue "Home Access Plus+ Home button) at the top left. I appreciate you embed yours in a bigger site, but a uniform navigation system back to the main site from every sub-section is much easier on us lazier OOB users Observations: 1> Whatever the navigation buttons on the top right are, they are underneath the "Logged in as | Logout" button (and therefore not visible) (It totally obscures them in Chrome, but only partially obscures them in Internet Explorer) 2> When opening the pop-up calendar, there is no obvious way to dismiss it - a little (x) in the corner perhaps? It also has a habit of hanging around indefinitely in Chrome. 3> Unable to delete a booking (either as the booker or as an admin) 4> LOGON-TRACKER - the navigation lacks continuity - can the "HAP+ Home" box be changed to the same navigation found on Booking/Helpdesk? I'll do some more thorough testing on both the Helpdesk and Booking systems during today Matt

Yep, it's looking really good Nick

Perhaps it is better suited to the concept of a VLE, but point me at any VLE which uses single-sign-on, integrates student home-directories (actual, not some remote-hosted server space) and is as simple to use as HAP+. The recent dissolution of Becta in the UK may (in time) result in VLE's returning to consumer-led developments, but for now they remain very expensive and rarely successfully-implemented as a result of the bureaucratic nightmare that was BECTA's framework. I'm far more concerned with allowing teachers to teach and the kids to learn and for me HAP+ is the cornerstone of our web-based approach to this. Anyway, back on-topic: I'm relatively interested in investigating any way of having helpdesk tickets get automatically created by email submission.. We currently have a [email protected] email address which staff find particularly easy to use - I wonder how feasible (and whether there is any appetite) for HAP+ to get mail in from this inbox (auto-responding with a unique call-id - to allow conversations to be logged to the same problem). It's a small gain for some big dev work, but it would neaten the edges of our in-house support offering considerably.

At some stage, i'd love to see some blog-like functionality for teachers to be able to set homeworks etc. Articles could be "tagged" with "subject", "course", "class" or whatever other info is easily accessible from SIMS. This might seem much more appealing once SIMS timetable exports can be understood and imported without conversion (so the system already knows what subjects and classes a given user is in). I know its a big departure from what the system is now, it just seems to me that you have a really powerful framework to build off. Perhaps an integration of something like BlogEngine.NET. perhaps for a v9 or v10 I'd also quite like to see some data on the use of the site. On my only 6.5 site, we hijacked the "Logon tracker" and used it to see what pages different users had been accessing (and with what browsers etc). It has made troubleshooting and just basic analysis of the demand on the site much easier and helps us target year groups (and departments) for training.
