I think we have success!!! I've rebooted the laptop and tried connecting, locking and unlocking. IT WORKS!!! I think I've finally beaten it!! Thanks for the suggestions everyone

Right.... I've uninstalled all Intel software/drivers. Uninstalled the device in device manager, deleting the driver software, and then searched for new devices. At first Vista said that it had failed when it tried to auto install the drivers, then they installed after a few minutes. (note I had not downloaded any drivers at this point) I connected to the wireless, used VPN, locked the computer and unlocked it, and it worked fine. No disconnects. I will let everyone know more when I've rebooted and see if I finally have cured the disconnect of doom. ooo... I forgot I also removed the Wireless switching utility. That might have been the issue.

I've tried that and the same again. I reset the adapter reconnected to the wireless after the changes and the same happened again. It seems just as I unlock the computer, the wireless cuts off, then reconnects. It's more frustrating because whilst at work I use a VPN to connect throught the wireless and I have to constantly keep putting in my password when it disconnects. I have the same problem when I go home, only, I don't have to use a VPN so it rules that out as the problem.

Nope.... It fixed it until I rebooted the bloody laptop. I hate Vista!!! Does anyone have any other ideas as to what might be the problem. I seem to have run out of ideas and I can't see what else it might be. I've done the usual trawling through Google and nothing has turned up. Thanks Luke

I believe I found out what it was!! The up to date Intel drivers for the wireless nic weren't installed. I was given it by the upper level IT spooks. I don't know!?!?!?! Thanks a lot anyways Ben. I checked that also, and it did need to be set to CAM. Still didn't work after I changed it, so I did some more rooting!!! )

I'm having a problem, whereby on my SONY VAIO laptop, after I log back into the laptop after it has been locked, the wireless disconnects from the Access Point and then re-connects to the Access Point. This is really frustrating because I am constantly having to wait for Vista to decide when it wants to re-connect to the wireless again. Has anyone else had a problem like this, and do you know what might be affecting this? Thanks

Our school is looking to either purchase the SMART Airliner or the Promethean ActiveSlate. Does anyone have any opinions on the two or is there something else out there that would be better? The salesman was all for SMART but we know he would earn from it if we were pushed. Didn't really get to see the ActiveSlate and what it could do, but we currently have 5 Promethean boards and NO SMARTboards. He did tell us that Promethean software was sold only as SINGLE licenses, but to get the SMART software we would have to purchase at least 1 SMARTboard. Again any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You learn something every day. I'm off tomorrow but will get someone else to try it. Good old drag-and-drop. I presume this works for mapped drives as well, just dragging onto the mapped drive instead. Great Stuff!!!

I've just had some teacher ask me about a shared folder on the network that would allow pupils to write to but not read or edit any other documents. The server the share would reside on is 2003 R2 Standard. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm 99% sure that you must be allowed read permissions on a folder before you can write to it. This wouldn't allow what the teacher wants, and as far as I can see it's impossible to do with Windows permissions. The folder would be a hand-in-work folder for the staff to look at. I don't quite know WHY they need it as they can look at the pupils home area anyway. If anyone has any thoughts I appreciate them, or maybe I should just tell the teacher it can't be done easily. Thanks everyone

We are looking at moving pupils home directories to another set of hard drives on our Windows 2000 Server. I know that if you just copy or move them to another place then the permissions get screwed. Is there a way to copy all the user directories and keep all the permissions! Thanks

We have been purchasing PC's for the last 4 years and have now got to a stage where it has become quite expensive to replace the PC's every 4 years. Has anyone had a good experience with renting PC's, and would you recommend it? Also could you give me an estimated figure of how much it might cost per PC? Thanks in advance

Tried that, but it doesn't work?

I have been using the USB stick to boot most of the computers fine, however some are telling me that there is a "Missing Operating System" or "Error Loading Operating System" when I try to boot them from the USB drive. Looked in the BIOS and have enabled all the USB booting options, including setting it as the Primary and only boot device. Can anyone help!!!!!!

Thanks works a treat!!!

The HP Tool is no longer available on the HP website. Can anyone send it to me or put it in the downloads section. Thanks
