  1. This looks like it's working! I can't begin to explain how happy I am right now. You've saved me hours of work and staff complaints!! Thank you!
  2. No I haven't - good idea. Will try that this afternoon.
  3. Ok I've found a bit of a quicker way to uninstall the agent using a command rather than by going to each machine individually. If I run wmic product where (name="SOLUS 3 Agent") call uninstall /nointeractive on each machine (which I can do remotely using our classroom management software) then add the machine to SOLUS 3 on the new server- that fixes it. It's still annoying that I have to remove the agent from the local machine first but I've found nothing else that works so far. At least this means I can do it centrally rather than visiting each machine though. It's also still going to be an awful lot of work on PD day when all the staff laptops come back. But at least I've sped the process up somewhat.
  4. Good morning all, Last week I migrated my SIMS and FMS databases to a new server with a new name. Everything was working fine until I needed to upgrade to the summer release using SOLUS 3. I added a few PCs to test on to SOLUS 3 on the new server (the old one has now been decommissioned) and pushed out the latest SOLUS 3 agent. They all updated to the latest agent fine. However, the agents report as being online but have a black circle with a white R in it. When I hover over this it says: Deployment Service has been moved but this agent has not yet communicated with it. I tried to deploy SIMS summer and FMS summer but none of the agents on the PCs would update. The server has been updated but none of the clients will update. SOLUS 3 just skips over them. Doesn't class them as succeeded or failed- just skips over them as if they weren't there- despite them being reported as online. The LA helpdesk are basically saying I need to remove all agents from SOLUS 3 and manually uninstall the agent on every PC before adding them back to SOLUS 3. Bearing in mind we have over 300 machines... possibly over 400... with SIMS on it.. and most of them are laptops which won't return until PD day... well that's just not a feasible option for us. Is there any way to get the agents which are online in SOLUS 3 to point to the new server? Or a fix we can push out to the agents/machines? (e.g updated config files) I don't understand how they managed to update the SOLUS 3 agent ok from the new server but won't run the SIMS or FMS updates. Any help would be much appreciated!
  5. Hello all, Sorry for digging up an old thread, I thought it made sense instead of creating a new one about a similar issue. We are having troubles with printers "following" our users. We are running a server 2008 R2 domain with Windows 7 clients. We have our networked printers deployed using Windows print management. They are deployed using the GPOs created from the print management console. These don't use GPPs. It creates an entry for the printer in Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Printer Connections > Path (e.g \\printsvr\HP Colour Laserjet CP2020 ROOMNAME). I think most of these are computer settings. The may be the odd user setting too. We have all of our USB printers shared via GPP. They are at the top level (each printer has it's own GPO) and use item level targeting to target the relevant users and computers. Reading this and a more recent thread, I understand that I can remove printers by creating a new printer GPP in an existing GPO and selecting the Delete option then selected "Delete all printers". I am assuming I'm best off adding this to every printer GPO I have already created and ordering them so the delete command is at the top of the list. Will this also work for the printer GPOs created using the print management console, or would I need to run a logoff script to remove these?
  6. Good afternoon, I'm hoping somebody can help shed some light on this. I am having some troubles getting the sync centre to work consistently. We recently rolled out a Server 2008 R2 server environment with Windows 7 (SP1) clients. Users have roaming profiles and redirected folders. I followed a recommendation for setting up offline files whereby I disabled the use of offline files at the top level, and enabled it on the Laptops OU where I want offline files to be used. I set this as a machine setting as follows: Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Network > Offline Files Action on Server disconnect (Enabled) Allow or disallow use of the offline files feature (Enabled) Subfolders always available offline (Enabled) I am having all sorts of problems with the Synchronisation of redirected files on the clients not working properly. Sometimes the sync centre icon doesn't appear at all and then when I run it from the start menu it says no partnerships have been set up, even though the redirected folders should be synchronising. If I open the documents folder it says the files are always available (with the sync center icon next to it). If I go to the user's folder and right click it, the always available offline button is already ticked and the green sync center icon is displayed on the appropriate folders. Other times it will appear to run fine for a while. The initial sync will happen without problems and the user will happily be using the laptop both in school and at home, then all of a sudden offline files will not sync back to the network and the sync center gets stuck on "sync pending". Sometimes I am able to get round this by right clicking the files in the documents folder and then going to sync > Sync selected offline files but other times I never get this option so cannot get the diles to synchronise. Is there something I'm missing or need to do to get this working consistently for all my users? Best regards Katrina
  7. ... I just creased up laughing when I saw this. What a simple but brilliant solution!! What's the saying about looking for the simplest solution first?!
  8. Hi Steve, Yes I'm assuming it's a permissions thing. I just tried to straight replace the file using GPO and nothing happened on reboot- we still had the blank frame. I should imagine a script is needed to overcome the permissions/ownership but I wouldn't know where to start with that I'm afraid. Actually, now you mention it, I hadn't thought about the EULA. Good point. I think I'll just leave it. A bit of a shame, as I would like to see the logo there... but don't really want to be meddling too much with things we shouldn't be meddling with!
  9. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. I have created a custom logon screen image to replace the blank frame as per the instructions on this post: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/59701-windows-7-ive-given-up-4.html#post543841 This worked fine for my PC and I now have a nice little logo on the logon screen instead of a blank frame. However, how do I push this out to all PCs on the network? I don't fancy replacing a .dll in system32 on every single machine (especially if we decide to change it!). I tried pushing the .dll out as a file using GPO (to replace the one in system32) but as expected, this didn't work. Has anyone got a solution for this or are my PCs doomed with a blank frame? (I wish it would just pick up the default user image) Best regards Katrina
  10. Hmm ok, lots of different views here! Thank you for all the responses so far. Has anyone rolled out with SCCM? Are there any pitfalls I should look out for? I'm not going to be able to do this until the summer holidays when we start switching over to the new network. My SIMS server will remain the same (all being well). My plan will be to remove the server from the current domain and then join the new one. So the server will remain relatively untouched. I will then need to roll SIMS out to all my client machines asap. Best regards Katrina
  11. Good morning, I am currently setting up a new network for the school (server 2008 with windows 7 clients and no RM- woohoo!). This will be rolled out over summer. I was thinking about SIMS and the best way to deploy it to workstations. At the moment we manually install it on every machine we need it on. However, this is going to be a problem as we need to rebuild every machine in school over summer and I'm trying to make it as automated as possible to save time. We are using System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM) to build our machines and roll out applications. Can I use this to roll out SIMS (silently) and all the required permissions? Or does someone have a tried and tested method of rolling out SIMS to required machines? Best regards Katrina
