[ms office - 2010] Office 2010 not opening files from folders.

Nobody has any ideas on this one? -
Hello, a teacher with a fresh install of Offie 2010 is complaining to me that he cannot open files from folders, only by running Office 2010 and opening the files can he get them open. Any ideas? I don't have the laptop in front of me.
