  1. Oh really? At our school we took down a VM and it notified us within minutes! Is it possible that it can keep an eye on a subnet or am I just thinking we were incredibly coincidental that our scan ran?
  2. Have you heard of Spiceworks? Brilliant community, great software and efficient too! Hope this helps Jake
  3. Something that springs to mind is that it's pinging 255 and if memory serves me correctly, probably not, but if it pings 255 doesn't that mean it pings the whole subnet? HTH
  4. Yeap. I'm smack bang in the middle ob Debon! So basically I've now managed to jump networks, I think?
  5. Hey! I set up a fedora image on my laptop in school and it works just fine on our Student VLAN... However when I went to install this over openSuSE my memory stick wouldn't read on the server and the disk wouldn't either. Yay . So I'm prepping an VHD to copy over. Thanks for your help Brpilot99
  6. Installing a fedora VM on my laptop today in school, and while configuring the networking, ugh, configuration fedora managed to generate a hostname for me. Make of it what you will
  7. Thanks for the reply Brpilot99. I'm with Mr Bondi next lesson so I'll have a look around. I've read that openSuSE on Hyper-V doesn't play very nicely so it might just be that. Just have to wait and see, I'll report back!
  8. Okay well I'm guessing that it's something to do with Suse then, as I'm running a Fedora 14 LiveCD from my laptop and it's working just fine! The mysteries of linux!
  9. Just chiming in! Thanks for your help people!
