  1. I'll try to explain this as clearly as I am able. I purchased and ran Captain Optimizer. After that there seems to be something amiss with System Restore. I am able to set a restore point, but it takes forever and sometimes it will freeze my system. If I wait long enough my PC will come out of it. I used to do other things while waiting for SR to open, and then while waiting for the restore point to set. Now I don't dare to do a thing because if I do I freeze up. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
  2. Hey Guys :hello: I was wondering how it's possible to get aero enabled on vista home basic. I've seen several laptops with home basic that have aero enabled. I didn't think this was possible even with a videocard that met requirements to run aero. How is that possible?
  3. Hi! I have want to copy my installed windows 7 to another drive. I don't want to clone the partition because I have another bigger ntfs filesystem for windows on ono of the partitions of the new drive. I just want to copy the files/folder folder structure and the file attributes. What is the best way to do that? I guess some configuration modifications might be needed. It might complicate things that I have some files that seem to be uncopiable/unreadable because of bad sectors. I remember windows handling these thing very poorly.
  4. I need some advice. I currently create and update our company images. Up until recently, this was accomplished by creating Ghost images and distributing them on bootable USB hard drives. (some hard drives booting DOS, newer larger drives booting Win PE). We are now using Dell's Image Builder and having Dell pre-image our PCs. I can download the image that I created (and Dell modifies) from Dell's site in the form of 3 ISOs. I can then copy these ISOs to a bootable hard drive. What I need is a suggestion on a program that will load these ISOs onto the PC's hard drive like Ghost does.
  5. I was wondering if anyone knew what the differences were between vista home premium disc and an ultimate disc? I know that I can install home premium with the ultimate disc, so can I change the ultimate disc to install home premium only? would it be the same procedure for x86 as x64?
  6. Apparently installing Win 7 SP1 was both "not successful" and "completed successfully". Relatively recent x64 clean install (1 month ago) using SP1 offline 900 MB package, appeared to work, but popped up this interesting message when completed. Windows Update still shows SP1 as available to install. Any ideas what it means?
  7. They operate under SVCHOST.exe and are listening on local DCOM port. This is default in a clean Windows 7 ultimate install. Also after security tweaking and hardening they still remain open. What services are responsible for this? Can they be closed down?
  8. I've noticed that when attempting to install printers from network shares I frequently run into problems which lead to having to continuously restart the Print Spooler service until I finally get the printer installed. Also, when copying from one Win7 profile to another the printers installed on the profile I'm copying from tend to corrupt once the profile is copied causing me to have to recreate them from scratch. Why is this some much more problematic than it was in XP and, more importantly, does anybody have any tips to improve the situation?
  9. when i created my hdd partitions i made an extra one for windows 7 50gb for xp, 50gb for win 7 and then the rest (on a 500gb drive) and also another 500gb drive (both sata) i have xp sp3 32 bit installed and running for ages everything working fine i then installed windows 7 64 bit onto the free partition and it worked when it reset itself into win 7 but once it had finished installing everything and i rebooted it, it wouldnt display the boot menu and just booted into xp so i put win 7 disc in and went to install it again and when the option came up to install to partition (i noticed my xp partiton was listed as system but also my 2nd drive was listed as a (system) drive yet it is only used for storage??) so i continued on and deleted the win 7 partition re created it then formatted and got an error halfway through copying files i then disconnected my 2nd drive and loaded win 7 it come to the install to partition so i deleted the win7 partition and recreated then formatted it and installed it now when it boots up it works exactly how its meant to but as soon as i connect my other hard drive back in it wont even boot i think it has something to do with what i noticed earlier as the 2nd hdd being a system drive i have plugged it into an external usb drive loaded it in win xp disc manager and its just listed as healthy not system the 2nd drive still works fine when plugged into the usb enclosure so im thing theres a boot menu or soemthing on that drive how do i delete it? any ideas??
  10. Hi all; I have a divx reader with hard disk connected by a wireless network to my PC: while I was renaming some folders the network went down and the folders become files, so now are unreadable. Now, when I connect the network drive, in the left column I have 8 folders (instead of the 10 that I had before) and two files of 0kb. Before this problem these two files were two folders containing hundreds of files. How can I restore them? remember that I don't have a physical access to the drive, only by network. Thank you

  12. I recently purchased a new laptop with Vista. I attempted to load VCast music for my chocolate phone, but their is a compatability error. Is there anything I can do? The software worked perfectly on XP (Windows Media Player 10), so I am confused as to why there is a problem... PLEASE HELP! Thanks
  13. Hi all - so I am using vista home premium 64 bit. I am having a strange problem that happens: When I try to print though firefox, the select printer window comes up and works fine. When I try to print though IE 8 or Chrome, a box pops up and says that the operation has failed. This is happening right when I click File - Print, before I even see the print window with different printers, etc. I have all updates installed and using the latest version of chrome. What could this be? Also I feel like this other problenm could be part of it. I cannot get any 'save or open path' windows to show up. When I try to add an attachment in gmail, the window to choose that attachment never comes. This happens in IE, firefox, and chrome. This also happens for example when running the CCleaner registry scanner within Vista and trying to save the backup of the registry, nothing comes up asking where to save, therfore I can't save it. This happens in everything (trying to upload pictures, etc.) Nothing changes when running in safe mode. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks everyone
