Not a of a fan of these GeoBooks myself. Maybe a bit of an insane idea - remote thin clients. I thought about booting straight to an RDP Session, perhaps with a little wifi chooser menu on boot, VPN Tunnel back to the network (if its not on site). Obviously students having poor internet could be an issue, but RDP is fairly efficient, so it would have to be a fairly unusable connection anyway. I've even seen tools to get the laptop battery status to appear in the RDP session. It would be a low maintenance setup and could even run it on top of Linux/FreeRDP, for a really light base system with no local licensing required. Thoughts welcome!

It would be far better, even through we only have the first initial in the first name field.
-
It does yes, but Teams doesn't seem to use it. It only uses the display name.
-
Is anyone else having issues with Staff display names in Teams? Our display names in our Synced AD are setup "Mr J Smith (JSm)". We don't display firstnames. Problem is, in Teams i get notices like: "Mr mentioned you". Basically, anywhere in Teams it refers to someone by firstname, it just displays their title - which can get very confusing! How has everyone else got display names arranged that improve this?

Thats interesting. Transport State: Disabled Disabled Reasons: "Account Type Not Supported" Sync Feature Enabled: False It has my email username under identity. But "Has token: false" This would indicate that there maybe more of an issue with my Azure Hybrid Setup perhaps? I looks like it might not be recognising the account as Azure AD.

I can't sign in on a domain machine at home, it has the same error. A non-domain joined machine on site works, which rules out the firewall/filter i think. Thanks

Hi All, I've recently Hybrid Joined my client PCs to Azure, moved over to Passthrough auth and Seamless SSO from an ADFS setup. All working perfectly and signs straight in to Office 365 in IE, Edge Chromium and Chrome. However, I can't get Edge Chromium to Sign in on domain joined PCs. It says its Not Syncing it has my email address and "We've detected this account on your device and need to verify it before you can complete sign in, and set up sync.", however when i click "Complete sign in" i immediately get "We can't sign you in right now". The Microsoft Edge team has been notified of this issue. Please try again later. Error code: 0" I can sign in using my Office 365 accounts on non domain joined devices, so i am assuming its something to do with my SSO setup? I was expecting edge to auto sign in. It happens on all devices/accounts i try. I'm not even sure how to debug this, Edge Chromium is so new, Googling errors is coming up with nothing! Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi, I've noticed a few people are using Always on VPN here and so i've been attempting to set it up. I've seem to have hit an issue... I set up a CA server, NPS Server and RRAS Server following a guide to the letter - fairly straight forward. I now have an issue when creating my Template connection, "IKE failed to find a valid machine certificate" on the client side. I'm only looking to use user tunnels rather than device. However, i can confirm that my CA is issuing certificates for the user and the device, with the correct uses. My VPN server and NPS server have CA issued certificates also with the correct uses. It's proving really difficult to diagnose where the issue is. I don't know if anyone has had similar issues, or at least knows where to start. Many Thanks

I'm just reading up on VPLS, which i am unfamiliar with. I'm with Schools Broadband at the moment at one of the sites, other site is currently up for renewal, so i will drop SB a message get some more info if its available from them. Thanks
-
VPLS, so networks on top of networks, which might bring me back to the pros and cons of VPN in this instant? Which Azure stuff are you referring? Thanks
-
Yes i have spoken with the provider. The VPN is their suggested option, as if we are both sites are on the same supplier they can manage the connection/routing at their data centre. Which has its upsides and downsides.
-
I'm not sure how? I think both options are scaleable to a certain degree, could even mix and match thinking about it, if i ran out of fibre coming in. As for the cloud, you may have to elaborate a bit more there. I personally think cloud services (i.e. storage) are a little way off being ready for school environments, a few more years and maybe. Thanks everyone for your answers so far.

Hi All, I'm looking to connect multiple sites (2 small-medium secondaries initially - 650 students each, shared sixth form of 150 students). I'm trying to figure out the infrastructure, getting prices etc. My current options are: - VPN over the broadband. - Direct fibre connection between the sites (through the exchanges), one site only with an actual internet connection. The latter would most likely mean both sites sharing a single 100mb internet connection, but having a 1gb link between the sites. The former would mean both having 100mb internet connections and using them for intersite communication (increasing overhead). My initial thoughts are leaning towards having a faster inter-site link as it may be more suited what i intend to do (domain, backups, frs/dfs, shared apps/servers/infrastructre, etc, etc..) So far, it's looking like the pricing is pretty much the same between both solutions. I guess my main questions are, am i missing another way? What's everyone else doing in this scenario? Thanks

Theres some really good points there that i need to consider. Another thing that is worrying me is using the Synology for iSCSI LUNs for HV servers whilst it is using for SMB sharing, but saying that there is very little draw on the resources of the Synology boxes whilst the network is busy. They seem to me under utilised. The LUNs contains everything from Print Servers, Web Servers to ADFS and AV servers all running across 4 nodes in a failover cluster. Whats really got me considering this is i am just not a fan of DFS, it all seems a bit "old fashioned" i guess, plus the total storage available to all users is 1TB and thats only made possible by dedup and its vastly becoming a squeeze (88gb remaining!). The alternative is to look at Virtualising storage.

We got WD Reds in all our Synology's running Raid 5. I am thinking of teaming the NICs, i have one spare port currently on each of the clustered RS's (1 for network traffic, 2 for backup and iscsi traffic - seperate LAN, 3 for heartbeat+replication, 4 unused) Yeah i think thats whats got me, its not normal. I guess i'd like to hear some experiences with this, even with other brands of NAS.

Hi, I thought i'd throw an idea out there regarding using NAS devices as apposed to Windows 2012 Servers. We currently have 2 rock solid Synology RS814+ (8tb) NAS boxes working in a HA cluster (hosting iSCSI storage currently for a few VMs) We also have a Synology RS815+ (24tb) for backups only. Our existing file servers are a pair of Windows 2012 servers with DFS. I'm considering using the 2 HA Synology boxes to also host live files, well actually, all the live files. So far i can only see benefits, easy provisioning and scaling, all the DSM OS features, such as remote file access, cloud station, time backups, webdav and ftp can be made available to end users easily. I can't help feeling i'm being blindsided by the idea, so am throwing it open for discussion! PS. We're a small School Years 7-11 only, 700 users all in. Anywhere up to 200 concurrent users on a good day. Thanks in advance.

I'm struggling slightly with Office 365. I'm looking to hide the Global Address Lists/Address Lists from students (They only have a personal address book), I understand its to do with Address Book policies, yet because ADP is fairly new in O365 theres little documentation/examples, particularly ones that are relevant. Anyone got a solution or have a good starting point? Thanks in advance!

Ah, that worked, WebDav was installed on the site but disabled. I removed the module from the site and it resolved the issue. Thanks Again

However on another issue, i'm getting "method not allowed" when trying to delete bookings, also when i make a new booking, i need to refresh the page to see it. Thanks

Hi, i managed to sort it, it was the showto option on the individual rooms and equipment i had not set. Also i has some screwy permissions on the files, which i sorted. Thanks for the help & the software.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, however it did not help. The link isn't showing on a staff members screen and still getting unauthorised, i am also periodically getting "The (&(objectCategory=user)(objectClass=user)(|(userPrincipalName=)(distinguishedName=)(name=))) search filter is invalid." Error when i link to /bookingsystem/ directly and the user has to sign in first. Have i missed a step somewhere? Thanks
