Hi Kmount, Thanks for showing interest in this, well i basically have the following applications: 1.microsoft office; including all the component application software excell, word etc. 2. 32 bit pastel accounting software accessed by 4 users 3. 32 bit belina payroll system accessed by 2 users only in the hr dept. the rest simply use presntation packages and word and excell to do their jobs. MY current set up is that i have a hp tower with ms 2008 server which controls active directory and domain host controller and a centos linux box that acts as the internet and mail server. Fellow Techs, i have jus learnt that vdi is virtualisation at the os level, which means simply virtualising a desktop which resides on a central location, whereas terminal services is basically a group of clients accessing the server's applications etc. However, when is it suitable to use basic ternminal services as compared to situations needing virtual desktop infrastructure. i have 25 user network using basic terminals and i presume it would be simpler to use terminla services with axel terminals, or are there any other ideas out there? -----:bowl:head spinning----

i have 25 sers only on my network would it be better to go for terminal service with MS 2008 server or even necessary to go the vdi route? when is it appropriate to go for the vdi route and when is it appropriate to go basic terminal service. Number of users/ applications?

Fellow Techs, In terms of easy set up, and manageability, speedy delivery in graphics and sound and greaty licensing cost issues which virtualisation software would you choose to sit on your virtual machine and clients. Secondly, would it be a good choice to go for clients with an embedded OS like Linux or Windows or non at all and what is the best choice in terms of weighing the pros and cons of licensing and ease of set up/deployment and manageability.

I only have twenty five users on my network so its pretty small! I don think it will be that complicated.

I basically mean the server, if it has to fail there should be a secondary dns server with redunadant data Or something this is what I mean!

Dear Techs, Was wandering if anyone has screen shots of step by step guides as to configuring, deploying win server 2008 Lan environment. Including Active user directory, IIS, Mail exchange, Terminal services etc. Apprciate the help.

Scenario. I have about 25 users at my workplace and i want to migrate them all to thin client systems. 8 have laptops and are executives and the rest are on traditional desktops. They generally use outlook for their email, microsoft excell and word primarily. And the hr department uses one 32 bit application for their payroll and accounts use another 32 bit application for their payroll which is accessed by 2 employees. 1. My main concern however is the data storage and what server spec is suitable for this sort of set up. 2. My second concern is the laptop users; my aim is to ensure security especially on these devices without taking away their independent storage capabilities and the ability to work from home. My question with the laptop users is how do i make sure that all their data is synchronised auomatically with the desktop on the server giving them the independence of downloading information like spreadsheets and docs so that they can also work form home etc. Main concern is to make sure data integrity policy is followed when execute my periodical backups.

Dear Techs, Thin clients bring about incredible security which inturn cuts down on it support cost and increased up time and hence you have greater worker productivity as a result. And the benefits keep going with time. Isnt that wonderful new. But as we all know there is a singlepoint of failure which could affect every user. I would like to know what methods are used in best practise that counter this problem that is posed by thin client - fail proof client-server architecture. Your contributions will be greatly appreciated.

i jus checked out n computing's model for distribution and their prices for thin clients are almost half of that of other suppliers such as hp, wyse (could not find prices for axel) but what is the catch here am i missing something why so cheap. hang on wait a minute that raises questions about the quality and the services they may provide along with their 'low priced' products. Anyone got any suggestions or insights that we can all benefit from? Thanks for the response appreciated.

i am new tothin computing and realise that its importance in business computing. i need to know which are the top 2 best suppliers of thin client systems in terms of pricing and reliability. we are big on security so thats another factor too. Please help!
