Yes they are, we use redirected start menu's on all of our W7 desktops and laptops

We have a small amount of W8 tablets (Acer Iconia W7's) for our SEN department and they have been successfully connected to the domain and appropriate programs added. When staff login to the tablets they can access programs fine, however when students login all they get is the metro screen with nothing accessible. The metro screen is completely blank, and any kind of search results in nothing. All they can basically do is logout. I'm sure it's something very basic within the policy settings, but unfortunately my server knowledge in general is lacking and I have so far been unable to resolve this. Can anyone please help? Thanks for the ideas everyone, hopefully I can get some diagnostics done early in the Summer break. Unfortunately they are not too easy to test, as when I have been in there and started the suite up from cold to install some software they don't generally display many, if any issues. It's usually after they have been on and in use for a few hours. We will see though! and if anyone has any more ideas please post! Thanks again, Matt

Unfortunately have only had a chance so far to carry out some basic diagnostics due to time restrictions. There are 2/3 different types of monitors in the room and all have the issue. We also have these monitors elsewhere and not once have they had this issue of flashing. So do the capacitors go purely because of the heat? As like I said above we have this monitors in other suites and they have no issues

Please explain? Do you mean the monitors could be plugged in to different sockets? If so that's not the case Forgot to say before the computers are currently still running Windows XP (only until the end of term). I think it has to be either a heat issue or electrics issue. Heat is a big problem in this computer suite, it is the one suite that we have no air con in (not that we havn't asked for it etc.) Think my first port of call then is going to be getting our site team to get an electrician to come and have a look then. Was just hoping someone else had an identical or similar issue which would narrow it down a bit more. Thanks both so far, Matt

Hi All, Have an issue with one of our computer suites. The majority of the screens flash on and off intermittently, some more than others, and some more often than others (seems to be more lately with the hot weather). This has been happening on and off for a while now. Sometimes we get reports of it happening now and again, but lately it has been happening more frequently (like said since the hot weather). I have a feeling it is a power issue myself (surely can't be monitor/computer problems? too much of a coincidence) FYI, there are 2/3 different brands/models of monitors in this room and all of the computer units are the same spec. Has anyone else come across something like this or similar or have an idea what it might be? Thanks, Matt

Yeah I brought this to the attention to the member of staff who has requested this. It is something that concerns me (even if members of staff are meant to be moderating playlists). The only way I think they can get what they want playlist wise is if out there somewhere there is an education/public focused product for this sort of thing which only makes available suitable songs and includes a suitable licence. The question is does this product exist

The idea has been brought forward by the Student Voice team after feedback from many students that they would like music to be played at lunchtimes. This has then been fed on to me as a request by appropriate staff because they know there will be a licensing issue. I know we are currently not covered, however there is the possibility of funding for a licence (price depending of course). Thats a good idea! They have said they would like to select the songs themselves but I think this idea of Radio 1 may be a better alternative. 90% of the time its the latest chart music and most likely allowed to play licence wise (hopefully) I will put forward this idea. Although it would still be nice to find out if there is a Spotify type product that can be used in schools if anyone does know of one? Thanks, Matt

Hi all Not sure if this is 100% the right section. Students from the school I work at have decided they would like music (current chart music) played in the main hall on the sound system at lunchtimes. They mentioned Spotify, however I looked into the t&c's and Spotify Premium is not allowed in schools. Does anyone know of a solution and cost etc? Thanks in advance, Matt

Tried these solutions and neither has worked, a user has reported once again that they are losing settings because .001, .002 profiles are being created. This is really bugging me, I could understand if it was just domain profiles doing it, but the fact the local profile 'user1' does it too is very strange. Anyone else got anymore ideas?

Ok thank you for explaining in more detail what each method does. I am relatively new to the IT scene (Since Oct 2010) so I really appreciate your help and take in every bit of info that I can. I will give UPH a shot first I think, and go from there. I also do not understand the local profiles doing the same, also a couple of other W7 laptops do not have the issue at all, and they are exactly the same spec and have the exact same image loaded. I agree regarding profile caching and offline files, I have recently become aware that this was possible and hopefully we can put it into place in the near future (the local user accounts were just the norm from since I started and beyond).

From initial reading then, these 2 solutions delete old unused profiles? The problem we have is the staff member logs in first time, under 'user.domain' and registers their settings. Then for example they log in 2 days later and Windows 7 creates a new profile 'user.domain.001' and they lose all their customised settings and are back to default. This isnt so bad on roaming profiles as each staff members desktop is redirected on the network and they each have a personal network drive. This becomes a big issue when the staff member takes their laptop home and logs into the local account and saves files to that account. As soon as Windows 7 creates 'localuser.001' the staff member then loses all of their saved work. So surely deleting old profiles will not solve the issue? Or have I read things totally wrong? We do not currently use this tool, just done a quick search on it and from first viewing it looks like it may do the job. Do you have any more info on it yourself from a personal point of view? Have you encountered this error before yourself? Unfortunately all staff laptops use roaming profiles. They also use a local profile for each laptop (for home use) which cannot be deleted.

Hi All, We predominantly use Windows XP on our network. However we have started to issue Windows 7 laptops to some staff and have come across an issue with user profiles. Users report a problem that they lose their settings (Desktop background etc) and upon investigation I find under Docs and Settings/Users that new profiles have been created, e.g. user.domain.001, user.domain.002. I found this thread: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/63239-odd-problem-local-profiles.html which pretty much shows the same issue. After researching I have come across the general response that the users profile has not logged off properly. Wondered if anyone else had come across this issue and knew of a fix? All help will be greatly appreciated, as we are not keen to start rolling out Windows 7 further in the near future if the issue is going to continue. So far it has happened with multiple users. Yes this is a start thanks, may be able to work something from this and make it more in depth. I use this way to, however was just hoping there was something else that maybe even showed files being created real time or something like that.

Hi all, I work at a school and we always have an issue as I am sure most if not all others schools do of staff and students continuously uploading/creating files, and using more and more space. I would like to find a way to view files that are created/uploaded to the network on a daily/weekly basis. Does anyone know a simple way to do this or a program that collates this kind of data?
