Re the modem on a Smoothwall, I use a BeWAN PCIst because thats the only one thats seems to be 100% supported out of the box, it also has support for the USB speedtouch modems although you need to install the drivers manually due to licensing issues. You can buy the correct PCI modem from the Smoothwall website. I use the express version because all the extras in the corporate are available free of charge anyway.

I use a Smoothwall box with a PCI ADSL modem after having tried numerous routers, i found that none of them a can beat the realiablility of a smothie, also you can set them to reboot if the net access is down for 5 mins.

Anyone interested in supporting a NT/98 Network?

Yes, ours are set up to do nat translation & we have to use it as our gateway to the net. To top it off, our LEA have installed their own customized firmware on there. FFS!

Hi Guys, I am trying to set up a VPN between two schools, I have a VPN Linux Box on both networks but the problem I've got is both schools use Cachepilot's to connect to the internet. The Cachepilot's wont allow me to open the ports via the web interface for the VPN, I guess Equiinet want you to upgrade to their Netpilot if you require VPN facilites. We payed £2000 for these cachepilot's as recommended by our LEA for something the is basically a linux box running squid, so ideally I need to keep these boxes. I was wondering if anyone knew of way to get round this problem.
