Does seem to be a kernel problem. All versions of Ubuntu up to and including 9.1 will run on the default kernel, 2.6.27.39-20091124a . Any other kernel seems to stop the server booting. Any image above 9.1 will not work at all. Chris

I'm glad to see someone has exactly the same problem as me. Now I am trying to upgrade from 8.04LTS to 10.04LTS on my cloud server but loose all connection to the box even though status says online. As the only way I can control it is via ssh the only thing I can do is a remote reformat to 8.04LTS. I can then ssh into the box and try the upgrade again but each time I loose ssh. Can anybody help please. Chris
