just found out apple have made safari available for windows download the beta at apple.com also all you boot camp users out there apple have this for leopard New, faster restarts. Leopard brings a quicker way to switch between Mac OS X and Windows: Just choose the new Apple menu item “Restart in Windows.” Your Mac goes into “safe sleep” so that when you return, you’ll be right where you were. It’s much faster than restarting the computer each time. Likewise, a “Restart in Mac OS X” menu item in the Boot Camp System Tray in Windows makes for a faster return to Mac OS X. hi everyone a bit of background info. I am a technician who only looks after the curriculum network.Admin is looked after by part time ex teacher who is member of SLT! and was not in on friday. Anyway on friday i was doing the rounds when i noticed on a admin machine a sims error saying that they was not enough space on the sims drive s:\ so after checking the machine i noticed there was 1.50gb left in the time i was thinking what to do the space had gone down to 1.16 (noticed one of our admin staff scanning ocr's etc) anyway decided has the ex teacher who is supposed to look after the network was not in i went to the head teacher and explained that the network is seriously in need of extra storage and you need to act today.His first reaction was that could it wait till monday when she was back i said not if you want to lose sims and your network in the next couple of hours.anyway he decided that we could look at it in, we moved 7gb of ghost images to the c: drive and that created 8gb total disk space.How long will that last and what of sort of storage and how much do you have for sims (i have no experience of sims) and also what sort of damage would of been caused if i would of left it? also backup tapes are just left lying around no test restores done!!also sims and the admin network has only 1 server what should it have? thanks mark

on the subject of sophos.. they rang our school yesterday to tell us there is new version out this june that will use less memory on clients :-) mark

we have a couple of programs that have weird setting for .net2 so when we install .net 1 it corrupts the settings for .net2 so we told rm where to stick it!!! lol mark

not since we upgraded to xp in feb half term and it doesnt support .net2 or above :-)

hi when you update to the latest ranger 5.7 it puts a shortcut on your desktop and a help file.You need .net 2 at least installed on server for it to install though plus you need to activate it as well with a license key which you have to get from ranger (sentinel)(if it not on desktop it should be in your ranger folder under setup ram2 or something you should find it) mine wouldnt do the activation over the web and im still waiting for them to send me the key manually (plus ranger 5.7 might stop your screen shots from working it broke mine and i am still waiting for a reply from support) thanks mark

hi andy i have checked this!!! had no problem with previous version what was strange was when i did the upgrade i was able to capture screens on the workstations that had not updated to the new version but has soon has they were rebooted and updated bang screen capture not working. tried reinstalling upgrade and also reinstalling ranger on a couple of computers but no luck yet mark

hi all after upgrading ranger to the latest version 5.7.0.1173 we are no longer able to capture screens using Lan Ranger i have tried the ranger knowledge base and also reapplied the upgrade using the hidden technician override in the upgrade software.Ranger are not been very helpful on phone.so just wondering if anyone else having same problem? all workstations on win xp service 2 and server using windows 2003 service pack 2. thanks mark

if you mean after you press f12 you no longer get the blue logon screen... you have to change the boot images section in wds in the x86 section i changed mine to boot from remoteinstall\oschooser\i386\startrom.com but you play around and choose the other ones and they will get rid of the press f12 part after the workstation has been given and ip address cheers mark

you get over time my head wants me to work 2 or 3 extra hours a day for standard rate 4-6pm(or even 7pm) i start before 8am (to install some computers) also wanted me to work one of the easter holidays for standard rate!!!! you can guess what my answer was. mark

im term time only have been for 5 years. head has asked me to go full time but not willing to on scale 4 (already at the top of the points) im only a technician but do a network managers job plus the ict coordinators role who left last june..... typical head!!!

we have ran since it was launced and if we dont have to do it then whats the point. i have installed the new aps for this year on the server but not gonna waste my time upgrading the dps on the workstations till we know definitely whats happening. otherwise teachers would be teaching towards something that might get pulled. mark

worst thing i did recently was drop an nec projector on the floor (and broke the focus button) while i was having a laugh with one of the cleaners at work (well he wet himself) anyway i phoned NEC and told them it was ceiling mounted and it just broke anyway got it fixed under warranty (hope no one from NEC is reading this) the best one was when i was messing around with a wake on lan program anyway i was trying to set the time to shut down all computers in school when i hit go and the timer came on and the head of ict burst in and said all the computers are shutting down..WHOOPS i told her and everyone else that lan ranger had crashed and caused it!!! Hi everyone i emailed sentinel about ranger 5 and windows vista and this is the response from them. "Due to the significant changes to the desktop security model in Windows Vista some components of Ranger 5 have been affected. We are testing and developing a new version of Ranger for Networks that will support Vista. We are not expecting our customers to adopt Vista straight away, as typically schools wait for the release of the first service pack. Our expectations are to release the new product in 2008." shame i was going to test vista in 1 room.Looks like i cant do anything now till 2008!!!!! mark
