  1. Can you guys imagine what it's like in a primary school re kids forgetting passwords and staff being a bit lax??? to the point of going into liquid form? On the plus side we have very few kids who think much above learning someone else's password as the height of Crowleyesque naughtiness, so I'll shut up now.
  2. Started a blog with an article I had lying around and didn't know what to do with, more to check out blogging than anything else. It's called The IT Magician and can be found at http://becktonboy.blogspot.com/ Hope you enjoy.
  3. There is an ICT Mark yahoo group which discussed this, contact can be made through a link on the TES ICT forum. A few visions were uploaded and discussed.
  4. Trouble with that, webman, it wouldn't really pick up the families with no access, would it? We do a year 6 survey as part of an ICT datahandling unit. They survey the whole school about home use of ICT. The data is not exactly 100% reliable, some of it coming from quick questions to year 1 children but the comparative data over the last 3 years makes it possible to talk about trends in our community.
  5. Sorry for any confusion: I found the idea that someone in your school could leave you with the feeling: My time is free to them, so they will say yes... quite outrageous. I have some idea of and respect for your input to your school and the wider ICT community from your posts here and elsewhere. Did I misinterpret the implications of what you were saying?
  6. Nick, you need to consider your position.....
  7. Got the same problem and TOTALLY agree that it is outrageous that this problem has never been solved by the manufacturer or network suppliers (RM in my case). The problem seems to lie with the unsigned driver, requiring local installs. There are apochryphal stories of strange hitchhikers with axes who knew how to get a db msi to work but ...... I worked with our tech one afternoon and we did get the wretched thing to install properly on a couple of stations but then it all went pear- shaped and we've never been able to re-create the magic of that day...
  8. Nick, spacecadet and anyone else considering installing this waste of bytes, just put it on a local install, show it to one of the peiple who want it installed, let them use it, then ask if it is worth half a day or more of your time to get it up and running.
  9. I just used the roxio stuff that came with the usb burner I borrowed, not a problem really.
  10. On a laptop with no firewire I tried a USB video capture cable (was £30ish but I think might be cheaper now), it captures DV from camcorder very easily and I can then edit in MM2, quality is acceptable for the kinds of purpose mentioned here.
  11. Good point about the SEF eean, I hadn't thought of it like that. We are a way off hitting the ICT Mark, mainly because of community involvement and a couple of other areas, which require SMT in my school to take action. I don't feel I can personally do any more to move us forward and SMT are not showing any real interest. (note to ric, have you tried becoming a bowl of petunias yet?)
  12. rosalie, I put my (Primary) ICT Policy on the TES Resource bank a while back and quite a few people have used it.
  13. Have been meaning to hang around here for ages. I've been posting on the TES ICT forum for about a year and recognise a few names from there. I work as a specialist ICT teacher / coordinator / network manager in a Primary School in London, my experience goes back to BBC Bs, 380Z and Nimbus networks. My typing is poor and I hate emoticons.
  14. jobos, I'm totally overawed that you've managed to get the thing working! what a 'mare. I wonder whose bright idea it was to issue an *.exe without checking out whether it would work/how to get it to work on primary school networks where staff generally don't have admin rights? All this hassle for a cut and paste tool which looks a bit better than Notepad and has no other advantages!
  15. Isn't it amazing what we will put up with in software? I don't recall any conversations along the lines of : "Well, I'm not trading in my Escort for a Focus until they sell them with all 4 wheels fitted..." "They are looking at installing a rubber band into the CD player in a set of upgrades planned to roll out in the New Year..." "Yes, I know it burns holes in everything I've got but have you ever seen a better looking iron?"
  16. As per topic subject.....just wondering. I've done a lot of work on mine and am experiencing a mid-matrix crisis.
