Bought an iPod 12 months ago, bought a Milestone 6 months ago, haven't used the iPod since. I find the Android approach more flexible and slicker, you can have a load of icons spread across loads of home screens if you want or you can have a mix of shortcuts, widgets and other stuff. There are even iPod / Phone themes about for Android if you're that sad, mind you, there are WiMo7 themes as well.

You'll need a DVD ripper, loads out there from free to paid. Jesterware do quite a good one. You may need an additional conversion tool to get the video in the right format. mp4 works on quite a few, but you'll need to check your user manual.

Picasa does work very well and will scan all your photos for faces. Once you've entered a name it will then start to suggest other faces that it thinks match and you just say yes or no. It isn't perfect by any means, but it is free to download and use.
