Hi All, Can someone please help me, I would like to restrict users from running specific EXE (executable) applications (for an example calculator calc.exe or notepad.exe). I tried doing it through Regedit using the following keys on Windows XP: ""Open your registry and find the key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \Policies\Explorer] Create a new DWORD value and name it "DisallowRun" set the value to "1" to enable application restrictions or "0" to allow all applications to run. Then create a new sub-key called [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowRun] and define the applications the are to be restricted. Creating a new string value for each application, named as consecutive numbers, and setting the value to the filename to be restricted (e.g. "notepad.exe")."" However when I try to create a New Sub Key called "DisallowRun" it sends back an error message telling me it cannot rename the Sub Key (it doesn't give me no more info in the error) but however in the same location I can create another new sub-key and call it anything I like but it just does not let me rename the folder to "DisallowRun". (I can create DWORD value and name it "DisallowRun" key but it does not like me creating a New Subkey and calling it "DisallowRun"). Is there something that I am doing wrong in the regedit? Are there any other free programs that I can use to block certain applications? Are there any paid programs that I can try (free trial before I purchase it) excluding LANSchool, AB Tutor and etc? Are there any other ways I can block certain Applications? Can someone please help me, thanks in advance. Kind Regards, Richard

Hi All, I am currently working in a secondary school in Birmingham. I want to learn how to create batch files I have used the internet and learnt the basic commands. Can you please direct me to books or useful websites that I could use to carry out the following task: Reg Key Location: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\XMIND] Value that needs to be changed (current data value): Value Name = Path Value Data = C:\Program Files\XMind I would like to change the value to the following file location: Value Name = Path Value Data = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\XMind We are using Windows XP Registry Editor Version is "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.1" The main reason for this is because we have bought new software and we have installed it on various machines and now I need to go back and edit the regedit values for it (i need to change the file location where the temp files will be saved to make sure the softwrae operates correctly). It will be ideal to create a batch file and use it as a startup logon script. But I do not know how to do this as I am a junior ICT Technician in my first job. What contract have you signed and are you happy with it? how do your ex technicians feel about redstone now that they have been employed by them? Thanks Rvdmast and Ken, we are using Novel Netware Version 4 and we are on Groupwise and all the workstations are on XP (we have not got outlook). If I recommend Windows to the SLT team then my manager will go against me. 1) Does anyone know the best way i could recommend a network change to the school? 2) Was Novell one of the first network that came out then Windows and now it's Citrix? Hi Guys, I have recently started work in a secondary school who use Novell network. My previous employer was a secondary school aswell (this was my work experiance placement for university) who used Windows (Vanilla) network. I have the follwoing questions I would relly appreciate it if someone could help me: 1) What is the difference between Novell and Windows? 2) Which is better Novell or Windows? and why? 3) Is Novell network old technology (basic network)? 4) Which type of network is mainly used at schools, colleges and universities?
