What is most annoying about this whole thing is it goes against the whole eve ethos of kill someone and take their stuff. I wouldn't care about the monocles if I could pod someone and rip it off their corpse with their fancy clothes and sell it on. Untouchable vanity items are just the thin edge of the wedge. Quite apart from the fact eve is only being maintained at the moment, and all development is concentrated on stuff that will suit their next two games, rather than moving eve forward and improving old features - FW is my particular bug bear but there are so many neglected areas everywhere that I am getting discouraged

These guys have stopped phoning me now, I made sure to clarify that they wanted to send me a FREE gift, accepted it and agreed to order one of their toners on trial. When it arrived I phoned them and told them I had changed my mind, and wished to return it as I was entitled to. After some threatening and pointless invoicing(they had no purchase order as I only agreed to have a look at it), they gave up chasing payment and as they never gave me a return address I ended up with a nice pen and some free toner. This happened twice about 2 years apart and now they no longer ring, which is a pity as I want to deprive them of some more free gifts.

We were given a month to decide as well. I personally contacted our LA to try and get prices/update on the situation many times, as soon as I became aware there may be an increase and they refused to deal with me or provide any pricing information. The bursar tried as well to no result. When we refused to renew, that was the first time they made contact, and they did so by contacting the head and resorting to silly scare tactics. I am fortunate enough to have a head that runs the school and is happy delegating, so they were just referred back to me. If they were prepared to consider the needs of the schools rather than trying to force the schools to meet their needs, they would have better luck. As it is, it looks suspiciously like they are (and have been for a few years) engaging in empire building and creating unneccessary expense for schools to ensure their cushy jobs remain - after all, all maintenance, supply etc is contracted out to someone else, yet they seem to have a plethora of managers you have to beg for any changes.

We have moved away from the LA to providing our own internet connection. The sudden price hikes we have had mean that it simply isn't worth dealing with the arrogant idiots that manage the service. They of course refused to consult with anyone other than the head and basically tried scare tactics. Once she scraped them off, no real problems. We run 2 x BT adsl lines with 2 public ip addresses 1 TMG 2010 server for load balancing outgoing traffic between 2 lines and publishing internal services Smoothwall for the filtering up to 400 simultaneous users, with no problems. Large downloads are no longer as quick, but that is no real problem. The important thing is we now have a service that meets our needs. No more begging everytime we want a change. And it is cheaper

ROSS is a Minmatar Factional Warfare corporation dedicated to PvP on demand in the low sec factional ware systems. Oh, and say hi to Deus XI from Brimmie for me He's an old old friend, and he's as much of a noob now as he was 5 years ago! I will, but I think he is taking a break atm, haven't seen him in a while? Who shall I say says hi?

I agree on the faction warfare, it is definitely jumping in the deep end for new pilots, but it very easy to earn good money and you will learn pvp quickly. The other advantantage is that you are very rarely required to log on for specific ops, if work is busy you can take a few weeks off and no one will mind. You might struggle to find a good corp that supports newer players, but do some research before applying and you will never look back. Eve is the only game I have found so far where I never run out of new things to do. Sometimes I stray to other games, but always end up coming back. If you do try it, the first month can be difficult, just persevere.

I'm in ROSS, fought both with and against you guys, although mostly against these days. I think I will stay in FW, all those carrier losses are too rich for my blood

Internet providers - Going it alone
Jonny replied to LukeC's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
State school here, but we disagreed with county some time ago and moved away. We use 2 adsl lines with isa 2010 load balancing between them, and smoothwall providing the filtering. We have had to clamp down on youtube, radio stations etc but it didn't take staff long to settle down. Contrary to what most counties imply you are not required to use their solutions or filtering, it is solely the choice of the headteacher. -
Eve Online, which leaves no time for any other games other than occasional COD

I use a steel thermos, less trips and as an added bonus if you come across an annoying kid, you can crack him over the head if no one is looking

Well, not entirely true, you are asking what software they would use to catch people bullying. There is no technical way to stop bullying from occurring. It gets boring really fast when people get hysterical about "cyber-bullying" as if it is worse than regular bullying. Any teacher with more than a couple months experience will laugh at the thought that by installing software you will stop all bullying in schools. Bullying is a people issue and should be dealt with as such. We don't differentiate between people shouting names, making signs or writing nasty notes. Why then should something posted on the internet be different? Because it is at home? Not really as bullying occurs on the way home, on the bus or train. On the weekends when kids live near each other, in town when they gather to loiter outside shops. Bullying is only stopped through education of students and by providing them with support. There is no Magic Pill.

Bullying has to be dealt with openly across the school. We don't have microphones in the playgounds and we don't video kids as they interact throughout the day. Regardless of the manner in which bullying is taking place, you can only deal with it by creating an atmosphere where the students feel comfortable reporting it happening to themselves or someone else. It seems strange to say that when it is computer related we have to rely on technology to provide proof. What do we do then when it takes place in the playground/classroom? Do we have a seperate set of criteria to establish guilt?
