Another thing i noticed was , when the icons dont appear on desktop , windows has got a classic start menu rather than a normal one.

i have looked at that thread. all exclusions are in place with sophos and still no luck.

i havent changed any policies in ranger, they are all default.. for the machines. Problem is the icons are not displaying on the desktop itself, the desktop folder does have the icons.

yes i have setup desktop icons for each user group.. and it works on desktops (80%) of the times, and on the Laptops it doesnt come up at all.

also their technicians cant solve the problem.....

wud they refund? its not cheap..

i do have a default domain policy, but it has only the default options and the proxy server details.

i do not have any Group policies in place. All controlled by ranger. @bladedanny the desktop folder has read and execute rights for respective groups.

Hello all, we just had ranger installed in our school, and we have a very strange problem. the desktop has no icons at all. but on the "desktop folder" all the icons are there. this only happens on the laptop. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
