There will be two forms of web blocking released in September, our own version included in your annual support and maintenance as an upgrade or an additional cost version which is using Content Keeper.
-
Just to let you all know we are releasing version 5 in the next few weeks which will include: 1. New front end 2. Compatibility with fire fox 3. Compatible with Windows Vista 4. Web console log which logs all console access and by whom 5. Security audit - informs you of any admin passwords that are set to password and require changing for security 6. Management group option shown in all areas under admin for relationships 7. Create a management group and it creates everything else for you and links it all up (ideal for supporting feeder schools) 8. Better web logging 9. A status option on the client to let you see what groups etc the logged on user is in 10. Online manual which can be updated quickly and easily by us centrally rather than individual help screens

The annual support and maintenance is always 20% of the original purchase cost. It is capped at £995 so customers will never pay more than £995 even if the 20% of the purchase price is higher. The £6k you are talking about is to buy Securus outright. The £995 is an annual cost to cover upgrades, technical support etc. Pricing is not really my area so if anyone wishes to discuss this further they can contact me and I will pass them onto someone who knows more than me on this!

w32/jbot: I was purely trying to point out that some of you were ill informing other members of this site. I feel everyone should be entitled to their own opinion based on factual information. Whether someone buys policy or Securus is down to them, I am not trying to sell Securus, I am not a sales person, I am just trying to make sure people understand how our software works correctly. You wouldnt be complaining if policy were posting here because you run their product would you? Its all about personal opinions and preferences which everyone is entitled too! I agree with you 100%, trial both companies software and then make a decision based on your actual findings and not other people's hearsay. If you look around on this site you can find arguements for and against both companies, I am not trying to get you to buy anything I am just trying to help with any concerns people have as well as any problems so we can provide a better service/software in future.

Apologies for this, we are aware of this problem and have notified our web developers (an outside company) a few weeks back and despite numerous calls and emails as of yet nothing has been done. We are looking to get a new website shortly, and to not use our current company anymore. If you email me I can provide you the link to upgrade Securus, the instructions and anything else you might need, just click on my profile! I am in over easter (apart from easter weekend) so call me if you ened help

Yes you can upgrade from 3.54 to 4.25. 4.22 is the client version that matches 4.25 server.
-
Yes you are correct Dave, Securus will only auto upgrade from 4.22 upwards. I know this is a pain at the moment but longterm will make life easier. Securus up to now has needed to be uninstalled before installing a new version in order to make the removal of Securus very difficult (for obvious reasons). I am testing the restore function here for 4.25 to check the function works as it should do. I will also test a 3.54 saved config by restoring to 4.25 (like you did). As I said to you Dave, the restore config option is new for 4.25 and should not be version dependant (therefore any version in principal should work), however it is only being offered as a feature of 4.25, so hyperthetically may only work from this point in time. I will keep you updated
-
So is version 4.25 still in testing or has it been officially released? Yes it has been officially released as a interim release, our next big release is end of April 2007 which will include EMAIL/SMS alerts. Although I havent notified customers about this release as we are a few weeks of off the next major release.

WIth any monitoring software, its all about training and tailoring the product to your needs. There are tips and tricks for spending less than 10 minutes a day to catch the inappropriate behaviour. If anyone wants any more info please let me know.

If it does, that is only in the latest release. It does interact with AD, but you can't see all users until they have logged on which is pants - so if you want to apply certain members to a securus group, you have to wait until they log on until you can see them in the console and then move them. There is a way around this, but it's not something that Securus do 'out of the box'. Point taken If you create groups in Securus exacxtly as they are in your AD (ie year7, year8, year9) and the students are a member of them, Securus will automatically move them into the correct group for you when they log on so no user intevention is required.

And that's supposed to be an improvement? 8) I suppose that is down to personal opinion, we cant please everyone!!!! But it will look more windows based compared to its very simple, basic look presently. I am sure yourll like it

Securus does fully integrate with Active Directory quickly and easily and we offer our own secure hardware which has a inhouse operating system which is totally secure and offers us total control over the software and having no need for any further software/hardware. We are also a UK company and have a manned support desk between 8.30-5pm mon-fri managed by myself. I have worked on all sides of the coin: I worked in a large secondary school in Surrey for 4 and a half years and ran with Securus there for well over a year before working for Securus. I then was a technical installer for a year doing all the two week trial installs. I now run the support desk and have done so for the past year.

For those of you that are complaining about the Securus console we will be releasing a new front end after easter this year which will be more Windows Vista in look.
-
please contact me and lets see if we can sort this issues that you obviously have. Thanks

What version of Securus are you waiting for? What is it you are trying to do with custom reports?

The memory error at logoff was due to microsoft releasing a fix for the operating system and consequently breaking our code. We quickly released a fix for this, which has been working fine since. Version 4.25 (our latest version) allow reduncancy, it offers you the ability to select where to backup the violations/config settings to. You can then import them back in should you need to. With regards to the hard sale bit, I cannot comment on that as I deal with all technical aspects of Securus and not selling!

Securus works perfectly fine on latops. It continues to monitor whilst the laptop is offline. It then uploads any inappropriate use up to the server next time it is plugged into the school network If you want further help on this please do not hesitate to contact me.
-
This was correct up till March 07. However, we have released version 4.25 of Securus, which offers automatic client upgrades. This means from this point on, the clients will self upgrade each time you upgrade the server As for the bugs, can you email me them and I will personally investigate them for you.

I am the Technical Support Manager @ Securus Software. Securus works perfectly fine on a citrix environment as well as terminal server. Norphy you are correct in what you say, in a citrix environment we would create an MSI for you to specifically run (it edits KEY_CURRENT_USER to point to the Securus Server IP address). Thanks Donna
