Hi all, I have a poweredge 2950 which was updated recently (bios, BMC etc) using one of dell's all in one cd's but since then it refuses to work at 1Gbps, only at 100Mbps. The nics are broadcom netextreme 2 's, I have removed them and tried other nics and they will only work at 100Mbps also. Stumped. The server runs 2k3 (64 bit) windows storage server. The switches they plug into are 3com (tried a 5500 el, 4226t and a 4228G) Any suggestions

i've already tried deleteing all the learned addresses on the switches, it hasn't helped. I will try to flush them through telnet when I get in tmrw and i'll post the outcome here Thanks

No they havent been replaced, they and their IP no longer exist. I have 3NS installed on my laptop, nowhere else though. I just cant think what could be looking for them....

About 2 months we had to get rid of 2 switches (3com 4226t). This morning I was going through some wireshark/ethereal captures and noticed that all of my switches are broadcasting for the IP's of the two switches that have gone, and doing it quite often. Since the switches were removed, all of our switches have had software updates and have been totally powered down (power cut). They all have identical config's so does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Who has 10.0.2.250? Tell 10.0.2.XX

I've found that if you just remove the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater5 either via a script at startup or whatever your tipple, the updater will never bother you again

The problem is that the angle plates would basically rule out the so-called accidents that this one room seems to have with their current sockets and prove it as the wanton vandalism I think it is. Hi, I've tried to find what I am looking for in the usual places but I am starting to think I dreamed this product up. We have rooms where the network sockets are on the benches and are vertical facing i.e the cable goes in vertical ( _I_ ) rather than horizontal as they would on a wall (--I). Can I get angled backboxes for the faceplates that still screw down onto the benches but angle the faceplate so they are no longer prone to vandalism and heavy handed people ?? I am sure I have seem them somewhere, please dont say im having IT dreams again

First off, just make sure that it is the backlight that has gone and not something really trivial like a capacitor on the inverter board which can be repaired for pennies with no technical experience necessary.

Recently (2 days ago) installed and deployed (remotely) i-planner, ITR, Talk Maths 1-6, Solve the problem 1-6. No problems. Why would you need to do the install manually at each client ? If you need a hand or some advice get in touch and we'll go through it.

Are you by any chance using RM CC3? I would check whether your older flash/shockwave have actually uninstalled and not failed. to make sure, get the flash and shockwave removal tools http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates run them a few times and then reinstall the latest flash/shockwave

If you cant, beyond all reasonable doubt, poke holes in this kids alibi's or prove his story false then it would be totally unfair to punish him. Also, as long as whats on his stick is legal (I am assuming it is) then what business is it of the schools. Just dont allow USB drives.

Smart web server is something included with 9.7 and allows you to view the status of the machines connected to the smartboard through the browser. Its also used for bridgit and LinQ. Type the name of the machine connected to the WB ('machinename:80') into the browser and click open room diagnostics (you might find something on there). gdi32.dll is for the Windows GDI which assists windows in creating simple 2d objects. Winsock 2 is used by most Internet and network applications to handle network connections so this problem does sound webserver related. Try disabling the smart webserver on all machines it is running on the room diagnostic should tell you which. PS It runs fine here alongside our IIS on both IE7 and IE6

I have just acquired a spare and I turned it into a streaming media server. Put all our old-but-still used video's on there, all of our homemade content, taped TV shows from teacher tv and BBC (all legal). Its a route where you have to be aware of copyright issues etc but it will remove the need for TV's, VCR's, Stereos, some DVD's. It is only being designed to stream to 15 machines (only those connected to projector/whitebaord) all done through links in a webpage using VLC (fedora on server). It worked great until a more important server had hardware issues and the media server had to canibalised, but it will be back by popular demand in the new year !!

Well, it works. Most (but not all) have that specific capacitor blown and a replacement was 34p from our local CEF, took 5 mins to resolder and now they work. Big thanks to garthsmojo for explaining the fix and saving me lots of precious money and thanks to John for the final push into fixing it. I wish I could share the love that people have for me for repairing them. Cheers

Does the doming on the top of the capacitor suggest it has blown, because the ones associated with the inverter are fine and they also test out fine. However, there is another capacitor on the main board that looks like a small bomb went off inside it (domed top, the top is scored so the thing looks like it burst open and its browned around the middle) Coud this be the one I need to replace?

Im also buying a new laptop for my g/f so I thought I would jump in and get some more good ideas. My budget is £500 and I am currently looking at the Lenovo 3000 N200 Notebook from equanet (Dual-Core T2330, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD, DVD±RW DL) which is £422.33 inc VAT and delivery. Being a girl (no offence) she is more interested in style than substance so I was wondering if anyone knows a better looking model similar specs but still in budget Cheers, Matt

If I did do it myself, what would be the implications on health and safety as I am not a qualified electrical engineer (although quite confident that I could do it easily). Would I be liable if one of them blew up and the mecury vapour inside the ccfl caused a panic? Also, £70 seems alot to repair a 15" tft when you can get them cheaper new

This used to happen all of the time where I used to work. The problem is partly a design fault and mostly the staff, who insist on leaving the power connector plugged into the back of the laptop and packing it into the case, also working from inside the case is another reason. Fixing the problem is actually quite easy as sometimes the dc jack can be placed back onto the board and the solder reheated to stick it back in. If it has come off, or one of the 3 (or 5) pins has snapped, you can buy new jacks for around £3 (look here - http://www.laptopsockets.co.uk/sockets-numbered/2.htm). Simply, dissassemble the laptop, inspect the dc board and jack, either stick it back on or replace the jack, any soldering novice can do it, I got our electronics teacher to do it.

Hi all, around school at the moment I have a problem where a certain make and model of 15" tft (roughly 4 yrs old) are all dying with backlight / inverter problems. I currently have over 22 of these in storage all with exactly the same problem and all died within a 2 month period. I also have another 63 around school, some are going quite dark. The monitors are rebadged GNR F153 (15 in - TFT active matrix - 250 cd/m2 - 350:1 - 1024 x 768 - 30 ms) I am in the Birmingham area, would it be more cost effective to get the backlight repaired seeing as I have so many? Do people do it in my area? am I in for a bad time? Cheers,
