more.... When I run one of these shortcuts, the tab at the top of the IE page just says "Connecting..." If I go to the Favorites folder and click on an icon for a DIFFERENT site, the site (Internal or external) the site comes up just fine... If I click on the Favorite of which I'm trying to currently load, it doesnt load and continues to hang. If I start IE off the start menu, and not thru a shortcut for a particular page, I can then click on FAVORITES and click on the entry for the one that was just giving me problems, and it loads up just fine.

Hmmm.. I'm baffled. I have just unboxed 4 new dell computers with Win7 of various models. 3 of the 4 machines are Latitude E5400's and I have 2 of them set up and to their users. BUT... I've just noticed on those 2 machines that when you try to launch an HTML shortcut from the desktop or other location on the C: drive, that IE comes up with a white screen and never shows anything. If I manually start IE, and go to FAVORITES (where these shortcuts came from originally) they run just fine. Huh. I've taken my 3rd Latitude E5400 out of the box since finding out about this and have been going thru my normal setup step by step, and I can not get this one to fail like the other two are doing. This is quite annoying. All users of all machines have Administrator rights on the machine, so its not anything to do with permissions. I've tested our McAfee software that we load on the machines (before & after the install of it) and it is not that software that is causing the problem. It has nothing to do with all the preloaded crap software that Dell loads on... Any ideas what to look for? I tried googling this and either just didnt find the right keywords or there just isnt much out there on this.

I'm trying to get Backup Exec 12.5's remote agent to install over on our two 2008 R2 servers. I get a message back in backup exec that the current users doesn't have the rights to install software in the locations it needs to (c:\windows and program files) I'm using our domain\admin account, which I've done hundreds of times, but it doesnt like these credentials when I go to these 2008 servers... any ideas?

Thanks. Under the Windows 2000 IP Configuration results, I do get my domain listed after Primary DNS Suffix. But under the ethernet adapter for Connection-Specific DNS Suffix, the domain is NOT listed there. An earlier poster also mentioned demoting the domain controller. I would have no problem doing that, but I thought that if the server isn't able to be communicated to by the other domain controllers, you will have a hard time running dcpromo to take it out of the mix. I dont want to create any more headaches than I have... But yes, I do have 2 of the 3 DCs talking okay to eachother.

We are on a Win2000 domain :sigh: and we are going to be upgrading soon, but I'm not holding my breath for it to happen in the next month or two... anyways... 1 of our 3 domain controllers is not replicating with the other 2. Domain Controller 1 = dns server (seems to be working fine) Domain Controller 2 = replicates with Server 1, but is not brining down policies created on Server 1 Domain Controller 3 = doesnt replicate with either 1 or 2 I notice that when I run ping commands to the 3 servers by name, my responses are show as: PINGING server1.domain [ip address] with 32 bytes of data PINGING server2.domain [ip address] with 32 bytes of data but when I ping the 3rd server, which is the one that isn't replicating at all, I get PINGING server3 [ip address] with 32 bytes of data (its missing the 'domain') Is this telling me that something is hosed in the DNS table, and possibly a reason why this DC is not replicating? If so, can someone expalin how to go into the DNS and correct it for this server? I've seen my boss go in and work in DNS, but I dont think I've ever done it myself. And my boss has been sitting on this for weeks and won't look into it and I'm getting fustrated because I need this DC to be replicating. I think it is causing a great many of problems for us.... Thanks in advance for any tips you can share.

Okay, I will try it out. Question on a side note that may or may not be realeated here. (And I'm going to make a separate thread for this issue, but I wonder if this issue could have anything to do with my drives not showing up?) My clients aren't just winXP machines, i'm logging in with my user on my XP machine, on Citrix servers, on Print Servers, running various OS... So I dont think a document about a specific OS and a local modification will help me out. This is the way I'm setting it up, and yes, permissions seem to be added in this method. -------------- do I have to set a policy for myself or something with a logon script that maps the drive?

When I type in "net user dgrams /domain" it shows my home directory path, but the drive doesnt map. if I type in "net use g: /home" my home directory does show up in My Computer, BUT.... once I log out and log back in, it is gone. I'm not very familiar with AD policies.... is there something there that may be checked that may be blocking the drive from mapping on the login?

I've tried this. Same effect. I know, but I'm just trying to get this to work for now. After I get it to work, I will worry about security.

Hi all. I am new to creating home folders on our Domain's network. For some reason, we have never used them, but I'm playing around and am trying to get one configured for myself. I 'think' I have everything set up right, from what I've seen on the internet. I create a folder on a server (lets call the server 'server1') and share it as 'homefolders'. \\server1\homefolders and I share it out to everyone with full access. (Just for the sake of getting this to work) then I go into my active directory account for my username (lets call it 'dgrams') So I assign "Connect:" to "G" and TO: "\\server1\homefolders\dgrams" After I OK out of this and save all settings, I check the directory, and a 'dgrams' folder has been created. So far so good...? I log back in on a client machine as 'dgrams' and go into MY COMPUTER to see if my HomeFolder is set up on Drive G, and it doesnt show at all. Up to this point, have I done anything wrong?
