Hi all Does anyone use, or have used in the past, Millgate for network support? I have SCCM 2012R2, Server 2012R2, VMWare. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of their support, good or bad . Cheers

Software Restriction Policies & Game Maker
jertsy replied to jertsy's topic in Learning Network Manager
We just agreed with the head of ict that when they finished the games and coverted them to .exe they could not run then in school. They can still run the .gmx files whilst they work on their game though. -

SCCM - Do I include SCCM\WSUS server in the collection?
jertsy posted a topic in Enterprise Software
This might be daft question but bear with me, I have deployed the lastest Server 2012R2 updates to a pilot server and all is good, so today I want to deploy the same package to all my other 2012R2 servers. I have created a collection with all the new servers in but do I include my SCCM & WSUS server in that collection too? I am guessing yes as otherwise how do they get windows updates. Any help greatly appreciated. -
Hi I am deplying software updates in SCCM 2012R2 and when I get to deployment package section on the deploy software updates wizard, there is a section for package source, what do you have in there? Most guides I have seen use \\servername\sources$\updates\... but I dont have a sources folder. Does it need creating or should it be there from when SCCM is installed? Cheers

Cheers Bossman, I dont actually have quotas in place at the moment.

I will crack it, just trying it now. Cheers Michael

Thanks for this Michael. I have tried it and I get varied results, the reason I did the My documents part was to get the documents in libraries to tie up with the users mapped home drive H: So in AD on profile I have \\servername\homes\Pupils\%username% set but what I found was that when users clicked on documents in libraries it did not match what was in H:, specifically it was pictures, videos, music (set in GPO as follow the documents folder) were not showing in libraries documents but were showing on H:

Yes they do Michael. I think I have narrowed it down to my folder redirection, I have %homeshare%\my documents set and when I change it it just %homeshare% I can save so it seems that audacity and the other software may be getting confused with this. As I say all other software, office, Adobe etc... has no issues saving. I will keep digging on this.
-
Just been doing some testing and Audacity does save the audacityfilename_data folder in my docs, just not the actual audacity file. hmmm I will keep looking.
-
No. in fact FSRM is running on my test network and that saves fine!

Hi I have a bit of a head scratcher, I have 3 peices of software, Ulead, Audacity & Cubase that wont allow users to save to my documents. They can save to a shared area fine, they can save all other software types in my docs fine too. I have saved as an admin and this works fine, so it does suggest some kind of permission issue but I cant figure out why just these 3 file types!? We are running windows 7 and Server 2012R2 file server. Has anyone come accross anything similar to this? Cheers, Jertsy

I have used a company called SMIS, who support our SIMS software and they provide a SLG that talks to our SIMS server. They are a very good company and take all of the hasstle out of using the gateway. Let me know if you want their details. I have also published SIMS via remote app for a small number of users.

Fixed it, it was daft really, I just needed to set the path C:\program files (x86)\ to unrestricted. 32 bit office is the one published on the RDP server, so it fell outside of the default path allow stuff. Cheers

Its .doc files etc... that are being blocked, they can log into the rdp session fine, they get all drive maps etc fine. I will give that a try it sounds like a candidate for the issue. thanks localzuk

Hi I am new to software restriction policies and I have setup path rules to disallow the default file type, .exe, .bat & many others listed. All is good in school, users can access all docs and not run .exe's. But via the RDP gateway they get 'your system administrator has blocked this program, for more information contact your system administrator' Its as if the system seeing it as a file type it should block. I have setup the Software restrictions on the user portion of the GPO, maybe I should have done it on the computer portion of the GPO instead but I thought that might block admins from running .exe etc... when logged onto the PC's. Any help greatly appreciated.

Schools Broadband Increased SPAM
jertsy replied to jertsy's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi mikeyw I am using onsite exchange and no I'm not using anything like SBL, I will take a look at it. We only seem to get ones that come from companies that seem to have been compromised. As I say they even stopped these for a month or two but this week they are back. Cheers -
Hi Are any fellow customers of schools broadband seeing an increase in SPAM this week? I think they had an issue with the firewalls on Friday of last week and since then I have been getting SPAM again. SPAM was virtually stopped dead by them back in December for us but now its back I should add we have a hosted Fortinet firewall with them. Thanks, Jertsy

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows a way to allow gamemaker files (.exe) to run when Software Restriction Polices are in place for my documents? Recently we have purchased gamemaker 8 and the students are creating games but the have an .exe extension so they get blocked as it is. Any advice greatly appreciated. Jertsy

We had it auto pushing and now it's stopped, support are looking at it as we speak. You can tell it's pushed by looking at devices in SCCM and it will have the site code and wheather the device is active or not. If it's not pushed it will just have the info pulled from AD.
-
We do have SPF records and as far as I know, we are not being spoofed externally. We just get a lot of SPAM with other organisations being spoofed.
-
No more SPAM as of yet, we could go a few days without any so I wont know for a couple of weeks if they have stopped. It may be the case like you that other folks cant email us either but no instances reported as of yet. We were blocking the compromised domains in the firewall, but I think we were doing that wrong and we should be blocking the spoofed domain i.e. fax@mydomain as this is how the firewall sees them. If we get anymore I'm going to block *@barclays.co.uk, *@santander.co.uk etc... No one will get legitimate emails from the blocked organisations but thats the lesser of two evils as far as I am concerned.

School broadband have turned up the email filter and they say this should stop the emails, fingers crossed!
