It was a long time since last post here but hopefully sombody will have a look EduTach how did you manage to make Password Control from WiseSoft work across the network? I tried to simply share the apps folder but it fails to start the program (tried different users with different level permissions and it fails every time). Help would be greatly appreciated

just one more tip - make sure you do all your settings etc logged on as a local admin, which does become default profile after sysprep another thing - I always make first image before sysprep, then sysprep and create image after sysprep. It does save you some time if you have to modify your image just a bit and make another one. It is always good idea to defrag your HDD before creating the image.

in general X1950Pro is based on much newer core which does support Shader Model 3.0 instead of SM 2.0 supported by your X850XT in real life you will have little or no increase in performance when running DX9 games after changing to X1950Pro Nvidia just released 8600 series and there is a 8800GTS 320MB for just a bit more than £140 as well (which is the best performance/value card at the moment). Ati will release new X2900 series this May. If you want, wait a while for Ati but I would personally go for 8800GTS 320GB which is amazing piece of hardware for this money. Oh... all of them support DX10, do not buy anything less then that - eg. Nvidia 7000 series and Ati X1000 series.

Wow. I wish we had some laptops like that in our school Spec is ok, as for the brand I would recommend Toshiba as well. We have/had Acer, Fujitsu Siemens, Dell and Toshiba. Toshiba is so far the best and most reliable we had.

BECTA's FITS is a great way to start - we have used it and improved / modified for out site's needs. as to fault reporting - the only way imo is a WEB form where you HAVE to fill all boxes before you can send it. Next step - announce IT issues will be resolved ONLY if proper request has been raised. It was a while before teachers get used to it but the effects are great - more organized work, no wasting time. When you get the web form to pass data into some sort of database prioritizing work is much, much easier as well. Let's not forget it all depends how big/small is your network.

On the official LV3 forum I have found a topic about AD intergeneration where one of members mention a script which gets all OUs and COMPUTERs accounts from AD and export into LV3 "understandable" format. Hi everyone We are considering dropping Ranger and going back to vanilla Serv 2003 for managing our network. We will move all security settings from Ranger to GPO anyway but there is LAN Ranger which is not that simple to replace with pure Windows (or I simply can not see how to do it.. yet ). We found LAN Ranger very useful for tracking pupils and for checking logs like "Can you please tell me who used computer number XX at this time and what time did he/she log off?" There is many other functions in LAN Ranger but most of them could be done with LanView 3 which I am currently testing. Things like turing on / off workstations, scheduled tasks etc. The thing I am missing: 1) View list of applications running on a remote computer (and shut down specific one for ex.) 2) Possibility to pull logs for specified user at certain date/time, I could not find any logs from LV3 at all (I would imagine they are in app folder but again I might be wrong) 3) Run specified command / task "triggered" by a network event (ex. run command.bat when user XXX logs in) Is there any way to setup / add this features to LanView or use some other tool/s (Windows itself preferably) to do this?

Imo Vista will be good in a year - two years time. M$ has already announced SP for Vista and I believe we all know new system will have tons of bugs. I am pretty sure we will keep XP for quite a while, it's doing it's job very well. btw. Don't count on that, with DX10 released all current "new" hardware is going to bin considering gaming

Hello to everyone (my first post here ) Personally would go with mirror for system and RAID 5 for data + get one spare drive, test it and put on a shelf. If something ever goes wrong you don't have to panic for replacement (that's if budget will allow for this).
