We recently suffered a cyber attack which took out all our servers including all backups so i am rebuilding the domain from scratch. I have the install files for the Sibelius license server and system ID etc from our old server but as i need to install this on a completely new VM the details are invalid. The only instructions i can find for moving the Sibelius license server to a new server is to manually de-activate the old server first. As the old server is dead i cannot do this. Has anybody any idea how i can de-register the old server through the Avid account and activate on the new server? I've installed the software on the new server and just need to get it registered now, probably using an offline method because the servers are now greatly restricted for Internet access. Cheers

I've hit a block when setting up HAP+ v10. I'm setting up on a server which is already running IIS8.5 on Server 2012R2 and hosting our RDS apps and VDIs. I've watched a couple of installation videos and read the installation PDF and checked and double checked settings and permissions and as far as i can see, everything is as these videos and documents tell me they should be. When i browse to the /HAP/setup.aspx page i see what appears to be a text only version of the page. There is no formatting, no images. This is the same in IE and CHrome and on the server, domain PC and an off school network PC. I feel i must have missed something somewhere as I just cannot get the page to display correctly and cannot conplete the setup. Can you suggest what i may have missed, or what I've done wrong? Cheers Kevin Since posting this i have been trying to find a solution but without success. There are a lot of posts online suggesting that 'Static Content' should be enabled. I have checked and it is. I've also tried giving 'Everyone' full control on all folders as a test but this made no difference which leads me to think that this is an IIS configuration issue rather than a folder security issue. There seems to be a critical piece of information missing in the Installation documentation relating to IIS8 I had become sure that this issue was related to Static Content but just couldn't get to the bottom of it. By chance i tried to check a suggested fix relating to MIME Types and got an error relating to the web.config file. I opened the file in notepad and saw "Remove this section for IIS8". All settings relating to MIME. I deleted the section and Hey Presto! page loads. Too late to do any more now after 3 hours of frustration but hopefully i'll get this configured okay tomorrow.

Hi All, We currently use a VLE for external access to files on the on-premise fileserver which we are looking to drop due to cost and lack of use. We do however want to have a solution in place for remote web based file access and i have been pointed in the direction of Home Access Plus+ which from what I've seen looks like it will fit the bill perfectly. A quick Google search for 'Home Access Plus' shows that it is widely used. I'm looking for some advice on how to get started with setting this up so we can have a good look at what it can do. What do I need to download and install? Are there any online step by step guides? Is there a cost? We have RDWeb running with published apps and VDI desktops and I'm thinking that Home Access Plus+ could be added to IIS which is already running on this Gateway server, particularly as we already have public DNS pointing to a 'remote' subdomain and an SSL cert installed. I have recently been getting to know my way around WDS and have found a strange phenomenon with PCs connected to the network through 3com 2948 switches. All of these PCs fail to configure DHCP addresses during the PXE boot process of network boot, prior to launching WDS. If I connect a pre-installed PC to the same switch and boot windows all works fine, no problems with DHCP, no problems connecting to network. Only an issue with PXE booting, and across the whole network, only a problem with the 3com 2948 switches. I cannot find anything in the switch config to enable or disable anything relating to PXE booting. The problem applies whether configured with VLANs or at factory default settings. Has anyone else had a similar problem with these switches, and does anyone know a fix? The switch is now discontinued but I have flashed the firmware to the latest available from 3com's website

I've been searching the Internet for the last week and this is the first post i have seen anywhere that EXACTLY describes my problem. If I ignore the Add Drivers wizard and manually add the paths in the OEMPnPDriversPath into the HKLM registry key then reboot the PC they all set up perfectly. The sysprep and driver folders are being copied, the sysprep.inf must be being processed as everything else is being done, including copying and running a different .vbs script file just for the sake of testing it, just the OEMDriversPath is NOT being added to the reg key as it should be. Did you find a resolution to this? Kevin

Thanks, but this doesn't do what I'm wanting. I have exported this key as it is, made and saved changes to mute settings and volume sliders, then reimported the original key. It has not reset the changed settings to their original state. Kevin

Does anybody know where Windows XP stores its user settings for the Volume Controls? I need to set a default for volume and microphone settings on 200+ PCs that will be reset when a different student logs on. I've trawled through the Registry and can only find the settings for which sliders are shown in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Volume Control. What I need to set is the levels of the sliders and the mute on/off settings so that every user gets the same, every time they log on. Once I've found where they are stored I'm sure I can script it to reset for each user. Thanks Kevin

Thanks to everyone who suggested things to look for. I have now resolved this (I think/hope) by installing an older NIC driver. To help anyone who may be searching for this in the future, Windows update had installed Realtek Driver 5.719.325.2009, I have now installed Driver Version 5.505.1004.2002 and everything now seems to be working perfectly. The problem was that the network driver was not initialising quickly enough to be able to contact the DC and process Group Policies.

Default Domain policy disables Windows Firewall (we are behind Cisco PIX and MS ISA at LA level plus ISA in the local LAN). The System/Logon/Wait for network is also enabled in Default Domain Policy. This only seems to delay the presentation of the CRTL+ALT+DEL screen. Ideally what I need is for the network to be initialised before the system attempts to run ANY system Group Policies but with this being a laptop, I don't want it to be sat waiting for a network connection when it is intended to be running without one. Just to clarify the issue. When Windows boots you see a series of splash screens, 'Preparing Network Connections', 'Applying Computer settings' etc, one of these should be 'Applying Software Installation Settings...' which then changes to 'Installing Managed Software..... '. I am not seeing the 'Applying Software Installation Settings...' message at all. It is not that windows is trying to run the install and failing, it just isn't trying it at all. All Managed Software applications are applied to the 'Computer' settings in the GPO, not to the user. Application Log errors show that the laptop cannot connect to the domain controller during startup and aborts running Group Policies. By the time the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen appears, the domain is available and you can log on. The suggestion of LAN drivers being slow to kick in is the suggestion I am pursuing at the moment. The NIC in the laptop is a Realtek 8139 and the installed driver is version 5.719.325.2009 dated 25/3/2009. Any suggestions on how to force the LAN drivers to initialise quicker, or earlier would be appreciated, or where to obtain a reliable driver for this card.

Thanks Chilbs, but with a laptop, would this not force it to wait, and wait, and eventually time out before you would be able to log on to the local machine when you are NOT connected to a network intentionally?

Thanks all for your suggestions. The msi's are OK and the GPO is OK as I have moved a PC into the same OU and the managed software DID apply. After going through a few things following suggestions made here I'm looking towards the problem being the Realtek NIC drivers not applying soon enough. I'm going to try putting an older image onto an identical laptop to check the version of the NIC driver and see if that still applies managed software. If it does I'll be looking for an older version of the driver to install on the new image. With Realtec NICs, i've always been happy in the past to use the Windows drivers, and to update them with MS Update as they became available. Unfortunately, there's not the option on this to 'Rollback' within Device Manager on this.

I'm not 100% sure on the synchronous / asynchronus question. I would assume that everything is at default for that as I've never had a reason to change it. Is there a quick, easy way to check? I remember seeing a setting for 'Run synchronously' for something in Group Policy management but I can't remember if this was for scripts or policies and having just had a quick scan through GPM I can't see it. The suggestion that it may be the network driver kicking in late seems to fit as the last reboot gave a couple of additional errors that it couldn't find the path to Startup scripts. By the time it has got to logon screen you can log on to the domain without a problem and run to the path that the Application log error says it cannot find. Is there any way to conclusively prove this or to change the order that drivers start? I wouldn't want to force the laptop to wait for network before processing GPOs in case I need to log on to it locally.

It's a laptop but it is wired to the network, not wireless. Previously Managed software has always worked OK. I have cleared the application log and rebooted and curiously it is showing an error " Windows cannot obtain the Domain Controller name for your computer network..... Group Policy processing aborted. Obviously this is why the GPO is not being applied properly but it now raises the question as to why it is getting this error. My instinct was DNS, but IPCONFIG gives all the results I would expect.

I have a laptop that I've just re-installed Windows XP on with all available updates and SPs. When I join it to the domain and move it into it's OU it should install Managed Software but it is not installing anything. GPRESULT tells me that the GPO has been applied and even after a GPUPDATE and several reboots, the Managed Software just will not install. I have tried dis-joining from the domain, checking that the account is deleted from AD, even waited overnight incase there was a replication delay before rejoining the laptop to the domain with a different name, but the managed software just will not install. Has nybody any ideas what may be causing this, or more importantly, what can do to get it to work? I've even tried moving the account into the 'wrong' OU to install different managed software in case there was a problem with the GPO or OU itself but even this has had no effect. I've also tried a new OU and a new GPO, but still no Managed Software. Thanks Kevin
