A bit late an answer but there's no harm in it; The microsoft article is spot-on about the problem cause; I had the same problem with my images. modifying boot.ini ( by starting Hirens boot CD and going into the "Mini Windows XP")solved the problem, it pointed to partition 2 whereas the was only 1 so after fixing this my images started just fine again.
