Hi all, I have recently discovered that I have a mac breaker in my mists. So far they have managed to render 2 macs completely useless. So any help on the following would be much appreciated. Victim no.1 imac 700Mhz/128MB/40HD Victim no.2 mac mini 1.42GB/512MB/80HD Both will no longer boot up regardless of what key combinations I use. The only thing they now do is display either:- the folder with a question mark / happy face or two folders one with an arrow facing right and the other with a reload arrow Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi All, As I understand it 2008 now comes with a VPN role. If this is the case i would like to use it. So my question is does anyone know of a straight forward step by step guide to enable this and get it up and working? Thanks for the opinions so far guys. It seems that the answer is to stay away from notebooks then and look at budget laptops. Keep posting your thoughts though. Thanks Ian

The Headmaster here has decided that all our year 7 & 8's (of which there are 70 of them) are to have notebooks from September 2010 This in itself is not an issue as we already have the spare capacity, licenses etc. What is of concern is what other people are doing are you guys using notebooks, mini notebooks, laptops, or iTouch, islate(when it arrives), etc. Some of the industry pundits are saying that the uptake of notebooks is about to fall through the floor as they are not able to cope with media rich content which is now being served up on the web and that the price of them have gone up which brings them back into the realm of the cheap laptops. The Headmaster is currently convinced that Notebooks are the way forward but i'm not so sure. Please let me know your thoughts on what you guys have done / used / recommend to your Heads Thanks Ian

I have had my MacBook for over 3yrs now and I don't have apple care and yes I have checked the battery contacts.

Hi all, I have a question that seems to have loads of answers on the web , but none apply to me. The problem i have is that my macbook works fine with the power connected and behaves as it should. However, disconnect the power cord and its a different story. What I have noticed is that when my mac is plugged in and if i press anywhere on the left hand side of the keyboard from the touch pad round the esc key and my mac just switches off. no warning, no questions, nothing. This only happens when it's pressed !!! It's becoming a bit of headache especially as i tend to use my mac more than my laptop to email and write documents etc. Does anyone have any ideas what could of happened? The intention is to roll back to Exchange 2003 until the summer. As with most IT in schools so much to do and so little time to do it. Rest assured we will be moving, just not right now.

I'm happy to blow 2007 and MS server 2008 R2 away. But will i damage Exchange 2003 in the process???

The ports are the same as the old exchange server The the firewall knows nothing about the new server. I was under impression that everything went via the routing group and therefore went via the existing smtp connector?

Hi guys just to confirm a few things These are the instructions i followed Transitioning from Exchange 2000/2003 to Exchange Server 2007 Part 1 Transitioning from Exchange 2000/2003 to Exchange Server 2007 Part 2 Transitioning from Exchange 2000/2003 to Exchange Server 2007 Part 3 1. We have 2 exchange servers 2003 & 2007, so we are doing this in parallel 2. I have four issues which i'm concerned about a. Outgoing email is now starting to build in the 2003 queue b. The Outlook Anywhere doesn't work as the settings have not gone across and i don't know why c. When opening the management console on 2007 it tells me that i need to turn off the compression for the 3 default exchange sites using the IIS manager. The problem is when i do this it then tells me that the relevant back office file is missing. d. My test mail account on 2007 can not send email Hope this helps

Morning all I'm after an exchange expert as we're in the process of moving from 2003 to 2007 and there's lots of things that keep breaking. My gut feeling is to wipe the 2007 install and start a fresh but I want to talk to some one before I do. Thanks guys

After a year of waiting I now have a tape drive Problem is it only seems to work with Windows Server backup (2008) Does anyone know how to do one of the following:- 1. Get Backup Assist to recognise it as a valid drive or 2. Get it to appear as a drive letter ie drive e: etc or 3. Recommend a suitable backup software in a similar price bracket as backup assist. I have been on the phone to Quantum and they said they could help me setup the drive to work with Backuo Exec most helpful ................. not So any guidance greatly appreciated

Morning all, Just to confirm, The server has a clean install of Hyper V The BIOs has been checked and set. The virtual machines are being created using the default settings from Hyper V. MS Virtual server/pc have not been used on this server The use of MS Virtual server/pc is a last resort as I know I can get them working I hope this clears the confusion.

Morning all, As with all things IT there is an impossible deadline to meet and little time to implement the desired solution!! With that in mind here is my situation I have a brand new 64bit server with 2008 Enterprise R2 installed on it and I can not decide if i should use the Hyper V role or just install MS Virtual Server 2005 I know that Hyper V is the way to go but I just can't get a virtual server to connect to the network. there always seems to be a missing device However, if I use virtual server or virtual pc instant connection and all my problems disappear. Do i take the easy route or do i keep trawling the web looking for a solution to my Hyper V problem ?? Any help greatly appreciated
