Hmm it went down again this afternoon - oracle say our support issues should be sorted out by tomo - hopefully so and hopefully 3.2.0 fixes the problem as the natives are getting restless with the server falling over every couple of days!!

Thanks for all the help - our My Oracle subscription appears to have gotten in a bit of a tangle and they think our contract has expired (which it hasn't) - the admin bods are (hopefully) sorting this all out as I speak. We're currently on 2010.Q3.1.1 - would you recommend an upgrade to 2010.Q3.2.0 ? Although due to the snafu with our oracle subscription, I'm actually unable to download it at the moment

Hi, Our 7110 seems to be getting a bit unhappy - three times now it's spontaneously rebooted with the error: "The appliance management interface became unresponsive and the appliance had to be rebooted." I'm trying to create an SR in my oracle support but the link to do so seems to have mysteriously disappeared. Has anyone seen anything similar? Thanks Alan

We're currently on 2010.02.09.1.0,1-1.15 - I haven't upgraded to the latest version that came out a few weeks ago as when we upgraded to 2010.02.09.1.0,1-1.15 these Office problems "appeared" to start - although they may well have been there before but just hadn't reared their ugly head yet.... Our home drives are in the root of a share - we use NTP so the box is in sync with the DC's - DNS looks fine no strange entries there. From the windows explorer GUI the permissions look like: Administrators\Full Control Our_AD_Admin_Group\Full Control User_Domain_accounf\Full Control SYSTEM\Full Control

Hi, We're having some real problems accessing files over CIFS on our 7110. We use it exclusively for CIFS use - no NFS. It's joined to our AD 2003 domain and permissions are applied to domain users or domain groups. We've had a few outages now where people would seemingly randomly lose access to files or folders they should have rights to. There's always been another factor present - network glitches, routing problems etc that could have explained it - usually a reboot or a rejoin of the domain has fixed the problem - and the problem has always been confined to our shared area. The problem has also been confined to MS Office (.xls or .doc) files. Now the same problem has reared it's ugly head with our home share - one of our users can't access msoffice files in his homedir - all the permissions look fine when viewed through Windows explorer but when he tries to open anything in office he gets the message that the file is read-only. I saw these threads: [samba] No write permission if POSIX bits 0 on ZFS written by M$ Office - dos_mode returning r [samba] zfs acls and MS office applications Which does seem to be what we are experiencing and am beginning to worry that we could have a serious problem on our hands. Hi There, I'm just about to start seriously looking into virtualising some of our services using Xenserver - probably the new 5.6 release due on Friday. I've had a test Xenserver 5.5 up and running for a few months for a trial of Xenapp/XenDesktop and been quite impressed at it's free functionality compared to VMWare. I've got two Sun 7110's which I was hoping to use for shared storage for a Xenserver pool. The 7110's are in differing locations around campus and one replicates all it's projects to the other. On the current test system the 7110 provides shared storage over NFS to the Xenserver I'm wondering though how to reconfigure XenServer should one of the 7110's fail and I need to switch over to the other. To simulate a fail I reversed the direction of replication for the Xenserver project so that our normal "backup" 7110 became the "primary" for the project holding the Xenserver NFS share I can't see though, any easy way to tell Xenserver that the storage is available elsewhere. - The detach/destroy SR options are greyed out so I can't use those. I've tried rebooting the xenserver but it won't go down due to the guests being stuck looking for their storage..... I had a look at CTX117200 - How to Change the IP Address of an Network File Share Storage Respository - Citrix Knowledge Center but that seems an awful lot of command line hacking around (and applies to an older version of Xenserver) Obviously I'd like to get this sorted before we move to a production service so just wondered if anyone could offer any advice? On a similar topic I was going to go with NFS for my shared storage over iscsi as I had a read through the thread where various people were comparing performance of NFS vs iscsi on the 7110 and it seemed to be the case that for dual parity RAID as our 7110 is configured as then NFS is the best choice. I'm also having replication problems between my two 7110's - both are running Q1.2010 - however attempting to replicate a project (about 200GB of data) between the two usually results in: "Description Replication of 'UEBS' to 'uebs-nas1' failed. Recommended action Check for alerts posted on the target appliance. Contact your service provider if this problem persists. This seems to affect all projects on the box - I've tried rebooting both appliances, tried SSL on and off but nothing seems to make any difference. Sometimes it will fail after a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours - but it will always ultimately fail. Is anyone seeing anything similar? Cheers Alan./

Hi Folks, I'm a bit confuzzled over CIFS/AD implementation in the new release. I have both our 7110's joined to our domain and previously when specifying AD users or groups to add to ACL's I've used the user@domain nomenclature e.g. [email protected] However in the Q1.2010 release if I do this it simply returns "unknown user or group". Any ideas what the format is for this release? Cheers Alan

Hi, I just got my nice shiny new Storage 7110 delivered last Friday but I'm having some trouble getting it bound to our AD. I've applied the latest update 2009.04.10.3.0,1-1.16 but I'm still having problems. Basically our organisation has two active directory forests. The first is our primary live domain and the 7110 doesn't even acknowledge it's existence - when i try to join it I get the error: "The specified domain controller could not be contacted, or the domain is invalid for the controller." That domain is pretty non-standard though - The realm name is the same as our DNS root, but the DNS root is not handled by AD - the DNS is handled by BIND with only the necessary AD zones (_ldap._tcp etc) being delegated to the AD DC's... I was more hopeful with our test/development domain - this is more of a standard AD setup - Windows server 2008 and the DNS root for this domain is fully delegated to the AD DC's. However I still get the error: "The specified domain controller could not be contacted, or the domain is invalid for the controller." After reading some advice on Sun forums I tried dropping the LAN Manager compatibility level from 4 to 2. This had no effect on our live domain but on our test/development domain I now get a different error: "The attempt to join the Active Directory domain failed either because the clocks of the appliance and the domain controller are skewed or the administrative user does not have the appropriate permissions to create a computer account in Active Directory. It is recommended that NTP be used to keep clocks synchronized when using Active Directory." The clocks are within seconds of each other so clock skew isn't the problem and I have full domain admin rights in the test/devel AD so permissions shouldn't be an issue. Looking in the eventvwr of the DC I occasionally see NETLOGON errors when I'm attempting these joins of: "The session setup from the computer XXXX-YYYY failed to authenticate. The name(s ) of the account(s) referenced in the security database is XXXX-YYYY$. The foll owing error occurred: Access is denied." The 7110 is setup to use the AD DC as it's DNS server and it's NTP server. I'm kind of stuck as to what to try next. Can anyone help? Cheers Alan.
