In terms of commercials on the S7000 I'm probably not the expert (Andy is good on that) but I reckon the matching grant would bring the price difference down from £9.9k to not much more than the £4.3k that the 2TB one is pitched at. The matching grant prices are based on list price as far as I am aware though. Cheers, Phil

the up and coming S7110 4TB will use the 300GB SAS 10k drives. This will give you roughly 4TB RAW and then RAID down to lower capacities once you have decided on your RAID level. Remember when you're configuring your S7000 (and simulator) you determine what combination of Availability, Capacity and Performance suits your needs and click on the commit button to configure once you have decided. I'm trying to find out why it didn't make the list and see if there's any way it can be added. What would help me is a show of hands from you guys on here as to how many of you would buy a S7110 4TB if it was on matching grant. Cheers, Phil

But in the interests of public safety and hygene here is another URL Sun Storage 7000 Series Software Updates - Fishworks - wikis.sun.com For those of you not wanting to go to 2009.Q2 you can see the earlier 1.0x releases here as well. You do not need to go through the releases to update to the latest version. You can go straight to the 2009.Q2 from 1.0 if you wish. For those of you in a non-clustered environment you will experience a short outage. Cheers, Phil

Morning all, I'm sure you all be pleased to know that the new 2009.Q2 simulator is now available for download. You can find it here: http://blogs.sun.com/fishworks/entry/sun_storage_7000_2009_q2 It is very easy to set up and use. You'll need VMware player which can be found at loads of places on the internet. I use http://www.filehippo.com to find that sort of thing and it has a whole bunch of other useful software there too. Enjoy the week. Warmest regards, Phil

Good morning, I know that a number of you happy S7110 customers have been asking about the expandability and upgradability of the boxes you have already purchased so I though I'd share some stuff with you... The S7110 was originally launched with 14 x 146GB drives for data. it has another 2 x 146GB drives for the application image. We have just announced the 4TB version which uses 300GB SAS drives. Now on the subject of expanding the S7110 by adding JBODs underneath. At this time I am talking in detail with the Fishworks team in the USA about how we achieve this on the current S7110s. We have other 7000 versions that you can expand (S7210, S7310 (coming soon) and S7410). I hope to have some concrete information next week and will update accordingly. Morning all! The new simulator has appeared internally within Sun and it's a good 'un as they say!. Big difference for the new simulator is that you can update this one with the patches as and when they are made available. also, we have both VMware and Virtual Box versions from day one. The simulator is built on the latest 2009.Q2 build so you have all the latest wizzy features too. It should appear on the Sun website next week (sorry for the delay) but if you cannot find it next week drop me a line and I'll burn a CD and pop it in the post. Hope you all have a great weekend. So, I now have the latest roadmap from our Fishworks team in the USA. It is under strict NDA as it has all the good stuff we're doing with the S7000 for the next year onwards.. I am more than happy to talk to any of you about the roadmap but it has to be face-to-face and a signed NDA (sorry guys but that's the corporate stance) in place. Depending on where you all are in the UK I could do a group session (if some of you are close to each other geographically) and I'll buy the biscuits. Regards, Phil

Butuz (not sure why the name but hey ho), There is a new roadmap coming out for the S7000 in the next few weeks so we'll be able to share this with you (under NDA of course as it shows all the good stuff coming down the line) so bear with us and as soon as it's available I'll be in touch on here to share with you (and others) where we're going with the S7000. There are a whole bunch of new and exciting things happening with the S7000 so watch this space. If you (or others on here) need more detailed information today based on our current roadmap then please fee free to contact me directly.
