Hi guys! Is there a way of transferring data from a file server to sharepoint document library. I have tried 'copy' and 'paste' but it brings up errors. Whats the best way to do this (easiest and efficient) -> Is there a tool that can do this for me? FatP

Hi Guys. (Sorry, if I put this thread in the wrong place) I am thinking of implementing WSS and have a question regarding what would happen to my existing file servers when WSS is fully implemented. When I move to use WSS, will I still need to use my exsisting file servers? Please could you folks give me some advice. Cheers.

Hi Guy's! I was have a conversation with an collegaue the other day about moving into the private sector. I have heard from a few ICT Techs that work in schools (education sector) that you get pigeonholed as an school ICT technician and it is hard to move on or into the private sector. People find it really difficult... How true is this...? Cheers FatP

I have been looking around for various jobs in the private sector and the job descriptions have blurred my understanding of 1st/2nd/3rd line support. My basic understanding of the three tiers is as follows: 1st - Helpdesk Support 2nd - Desktop Support 3rd - Network Administration Do people agree with the above? The jobs that I have been applying for are a mix of 1st and 2nd line. I tend to meeta all there requirements with my 18 months of tech experience but job titles throw me.

Hi Guys. I was wondering if any one on the forums had any advice regarding a : Mobile device for recording data. I need a hardware device where I can go along freely recording data into a excel spreadsheet on the move. I work in a school and the device will be used to record incidents during school hours by a person on patrol so to speak. It has to be user friendly with a keyboard / keypad. I was thinking somethin like a blackberry or PDA. any suggestions out there? A budget of around 300 pounds. Cheers. FatP.

Hi Guys. New to the forum here. Some background on myself. I am an ICT Technician in a school in birmingham. It is my first job in IT and have been lurking around on the forums for a while after a recommendation from another forum. I have found that my school has taken on BSF and that Redstone have won the bid for the IT managed services. I dont know where I stand now! The building work needs to be completed before obviously redstone come in and these will take approx 2 - 2.5 years to complete. So I know I have atleast that long to find another job. Is it likely that Redstone will take us on or use their own people?My team consists so far of a network administrator and two technicians. With the servers going to the new data centre / farm I know there wont be any need for any 3rd line support. But what about the day to day desktop support? Are all the ICT techs going be out of a job? Does anyone have additional information on this matter? Cheers.
