Ok thanks, would you suggest having a seperate VHD for the OS and another VHD for data in case we need to get the server up quickly for example?

Hi all, We have purchased 2 new servers and will be using HyperV. I was thinking of creating VMS with a 250gb vhd e.g our fileserver VM will have two 250gb vhd's instead of a 500gb vhd. I have had problems in the past with vmware and large 500+gb vm's and backing them up. Do you think this is a good idea? We will be backing up the vms to a NAS. Can "windows backup" backup the entire vhd while the VM is running on hyper v? (Shadaow copy) Thanks

I changed the cachepath in reg on 2 xp machines. It seems once 1 user is using GE it locks the cache file, the other client works but it doesnt use the cache until the first user closes GE. This was only a quick test, give it a try and see what happens for you? This was full everyone acesss and full access to the share.

Hi all If you change the cachepath in the registry to a network share and have have 100+ workstations all using Google Earth at the same time will it work? I mean, will it pop up with an access denied file in use or will it support 40 clients and share the cache files? I heard there is a 2 gig limit of the cachefile anyway is it really worth it? We are getting high traffic with our proxy with google earth probably 50mb a day or higher. Will the other user using the same cache path wipe the old cache file? Works well however it doesnt work on school laptops as it doesnt support proxys!

Hope you sorted it. Anyway, I had a server "freeze" like what you described. I found out one of the scsi hard disks was "faulty", it would work and later fail at random. I had to cold reboot the server every few weeks. I would also have to continually rebuild the array. Sent back the drive got a new one and now no problems.

Well I have actually been working all except one week in January catching up on installing new servers, re-imaging etc. School this year will be different because of the Commonwealth games..... I have a batch file that checks if the server exists in all users startup if so then runs a batch file from the server to map drives / fixes etc. If they are at home I have two batch files on their desktop to undo the proxy settings depending where they are. I have found this the easiest way. The laptops are not on domains.
