My vote would be to get the line manager son to download the latest Ubuntu server and install it for you. Here is the step basically. 1. Download the .iso image (ubuntu v9.10 server) 2. Burn the .iso image to CD using burning software. e.g. nero 3. Boot from the CD on the computer you will be using to run the web site 4. Just during setup, choose "LAMP" server. LAMP stands for Linux Apache Mysql Php and you should have a functioning web server with minimum effort. You can install webmin and phpmyadmin easily afterwards. You wil have to install OpenSSHserver also in order to use putty to connect to the web server remotely. The reason I recommend Ubuntu is from personal experience and I have found tons of documentation when I need help. In a nutshell, Ubuntu can give you a fully functional web server in as little as 15-20 mins depending on the hardware without knowing too much about web servers. Hope that helps.

Hi guys, I've setup a website for our school using the Edugeek Joomla 1.5 Package. The staff haven't really used the site really and I'm trying to generate interest in the site. I know the principal sends out weekly newsletter to parents via email. I would like to try and automate this on the web site and have as user friendly as possible. I've installed Docman and Remository and played with both a little. Down the road, I would like the site to host documents staff members can access and some public documents like field trips forms etc. Recommendations would be great! p.s - the solution has to be as equal as sending an email to all the parents with the newsletter attached Thanks.

Hi guys, I'm trying to get FOG going at work. I do not have any access to the DHCP server so I cannot point to the FOG server for PXE. I'm looking at using a boot CD to basically replace the PXE booting where the desktop boots and connects to the FOG server. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Hi guys, I'm trying to setup Fog v0.27 on Ubuntu 9.04 server. Here are the steps I took. 1. Downloaded and installed Ubuntu 9.04 Server on a spare box, choose LAMP and SSH server options during setup. 2. Downloaded Fog v0.27 from here Download FOG - A Free Cloning Solution from SourceForge.net 3. I am trying to follow the wiki, FOGUserGuide - FOGWiki, ran sudo ./installfog.sh We are about to install MySQL Server on this server, if MySQL isn't installed already you will be prompted for a root password. If you don't leave it blank you will need to change it in the config.php file located at: /var/www/fog/commons/config.php Press enter to acknowledge this message. 4. I press enter 5. The script finishes without any errors. Setup complete! You still need to install/update your database schema. I'm actually pretty new at Joomla too! I'm not sure what the difference between backing up the entire server versus Joomlapack way of doing things. I know that Joomlapack will backup the site and all the settings that go with it. It should be smaller in size and easier to restore your site from this. That is the correct link, that was my first post so I couldn't include the link. Just to show I am a Joomla noob, would a normal backup of the server not backup Joomla or is JoomlaPack if you just want an instant backup? Also the Update Manager, is it this one? That sounds like a jolly good idea.

Just an FYI, I'm running Joomla 1.5.9 with the Edugeek Joomla 1.5 Package and figured I should upgrade to latest stable Joomla release, 1.5.14. I installed Joomlapack and backed up the site, downloaded it and installed Joomla Update Manager. This extension is awesome. Basically I answered 3 questions and my site was updated. This extension will be part of the upcoming Joomla 1.6.
