  1. Hi guys, I work in a special needs school was wondering about using group policies to lockdown computers so that only certain things can be done.We have Win2k8 Server and XP xp2 workstations. I want to keep a balance of speed for a user to logon with all policies being applied. Also, how I can create an already created account from .dat to .man profiles. What I mean is that I need to create a mandatory profile for x students. These students already had a profile. Let me give u how this was done: We have student a, his folder is in server\folder\class x\student a This student a folder is shared as: studenta$ Inside Student folder we have the sort of viglen classlink layout; two folders: \student a\cached - where the share is like: studentaCached$ \student a\profile When we map this into active directory: under user properties Profile Path = \\server\studenta$\profile Local Path (home folder) = \\server\studentaCached$ So looking at this long crappy way of doing things, i want to know if a user is created and I see .dat inside profile and change it to .man...will I need to do this with everyone. Infact if the workstations (roaming profile) have already the details of profile, what will happen if I change it at the server end? thanks for all help... Erfan
  2. First of all I would like to say that Butuz was very true in terms of leadership and ict technicians. I work in a school where by no one has the slightest clue about ICT. My role is like of a 1 st line support. All network issues are dealt by me and only me. What training do I get through the school? CCNA with a company that charges nothing and has pass rate to almost 5%. Interesting? I've just started! Management think that all hardware / software problems are easy to solve. In fact they almost believed that computers install / fix / work automatically. No need for HUMANS...wow! Plans for ICT? Please don't even try going there...I've had suggestions from SLM that even a IT pro would reply...Are you guys feeling okay? My pay is like what Butuz said...Receptionist. The demand for solutions is ever increasing. Innovation / new ideas are smudged with me trying to explain management how to improve ict. It's like talking to a brick wall in fact its like talking to a parrot who can't stop repeating what you have just said. But lets get serious on the issue of BSF. 1...If the school signs the contract with BSF on refurb / new build / new ICT suites etc...then the condition which includes Technician being TUPED is forced and implemented whether or not the technician likes it or not... This is what Ramesys says about TUPE contract for Technicians: If you do not join Ramesys (managed Service) then it will be as if you volenter for resignation from your current post. You can not see this as a unfair dismissal. Now you tell me what choice does a person like myself have when confronted with words like this? over and out erfan
  3. I've have read most threads that relate to BSF and a private company that Technicians are being tuped. My story begins with me at the ICT Suite planning software deployment over network. Suddenly I see my Headteacher and tells me about a company called Ramesys and that I will be transfered to that company. He said it could mean 'Progression' in terms moving forward in IT. Whilst being so brief and even worse, very vague, he questioned me: what do I want to do? Left in confusion I asked myself what on earth is he talking about? First thing that came to mind was...is he / management tryig to get rid of me? but why? I was totally confused and went in panic mode. I decided to take a day off and left a voice message with deputy head saying that I won't be coming to school becuz of what the headteacher said. A day after I confronted D.Head and told him of my concerns. With fake promises he assured me there was nothing to worry about. Same came from Headteacher Assistant. In fact they said to me that they have yet to meet with Ramesys. My feelings tell me that they had aleady met and discussed about ICT. My Line Manager who happens to be ICT Co-ordinator resigned with the reason that she was suffering with ulser. That was a strange move since she could take 6 months off and come back to school. Now everything has once again gone too quiet. It almost seems like as if there are things going on but secretly. So I have now decided to rein in the Union and call ramesys (directly) and ask key questions. I need to plan wisely in terms of arranging a meeting and need to ask right set of questions. I strongly believe that management are hiding something but my call to Ramesys might bring some light. Over and out Erfan
