  1. Is anybody else who uses LP+ seeing access issues? Currently, we struggle to get a class of 30 students to use it at the same time, some students end up getting timed out etc. Also, if you are using web outlook and do a check name or click send if you haven't checked the name, it gets you to log in again- very annoying when you've signed in just 60 seconds ago! LP+ are denying an issue at their end, but it happens at other schools on our LEA's internet, at staffs homes, on an RM IFL internet line etc. I was wondering if any other LP+ schools have seen this? Thanks, Daniel
  2. Yeah I like edugeek, loads more techies on here than communities Many thanks for all your replies, some interesting variation. I like the helpdesk that has 0 calls at the end of the day! We do tend to log projects and our RM Support calls in there too so that will have some bearing on our open call number Daniel
  3. Hello, We have just recently started using the spiceworks helpdesk software, and I'm surprised at how many tickets we accumulate, it hasn't really slipped below 37 tickets for 2 weeks or so now. You close one ticket and another 2 open! I'm just curious as to what other schools who are using helpdesk software are seeing in correlation to their setup (e.g: number of devices and users supported/ number of technicians/ network management software used (e.g: RM CC4) We are running CC4 and have 3 full time people in IT support supporting about 1000 users and just over 400 devices Daniel
  4. Thanks that looks great! Will make some enquries with our email provider. Any other suggestions?
  5. Hi, We are looking to buy a smart phone/ PDA type device for some our IT Team. We are pushing using helpdesk software for users to report faults, so we are looking at access to email on the go. Features we need: Wi-Fi/ and/or 2g or 3g internet (Wi-Fi coverage covers most of the school, 2g 3g would make a handy backup) 'Push' exchange email capabilities qwerty keypad (not a touch interface keypad) Must fit in pocket (or it won't always get taken out of the office!) Decent sized screen Features we would like: Remote desktop capabilities (to access servers on the fly), with right click capabilities Stylus pen for interacting with screen preferred to touch Phone is preferred to PDA with no ability to make calls I'm guessing some sort of Windows smart phone device is the best option, but it's not a market I keep my eye on (I have a basic camera phone for home use) so I was wondering what devices you guys would recommend? Many thanks, Dan
  6. I do wonder if a freelance IT person/ company could make a lot of money selling a one off migration like this to disgruntled RM customers!
  7. Sorry, we were able to make multimedia titles on CC3 but they don't work on CC4 for us either. We did get some packages built on CC4, but the last 3 I tried all failed. Now we've got the software restrictions policy fixed it's even less likely they'll install now, RM are in no hurry to bring outa new version of ACL detective either because it won't make them any more money
  8. good afternoon, after a few frustrating meetings with my collueges, it's got me thinknig about the negative impact CC4 has had (and continues to have) on the internal ICT support department (and also the end users.) We got CC4 last summer and have been battling issues ever since. We were fairly stable before SR1 although have never had all our support calls closed since the upgrade. I am now dealing with a few issues with RM Support that have arrisen post SR1, whilst trying to catch up on things that have been put off for ages (e.g: new applications.) I joined the team in April last year and we had about 4 months of CC3 before the upgrade- whilst we wern't sat twiddling our thumbs I was able to perform routine maintiance and deal with any network problems or staff requests pretty much as they arose (i.e: just a couple of days turn around for a new package usually.) Since the upgrade we've been limping through at reduced effectiveness 'short term' although I don't see an end in sight anytime soon. Things that would normally have a few days turn around period are now done 'when they can be'- some software titles have been put back months. I am currently not able to perform all my duties in my job description due to time constraints and our other technician is having to take up the slack which is reducing his ability to respond to problems too- we both feel overworked and frustrated. It's not just obvious CC4 problems but some asspects of it seem to make it more work than CC3 in the day to day running of the network, although this has got better with SR1. It's not very good for job satisfaction 1.) feeling overworked but also 2.) feeling that you are not able to help the users quickly enough and 3.) feeling things are getting neglected/ overlooked Is it just us, or does anyone else with CC4 feel this way?
  9. I felt CC3 was by the end of it a very good and stable product and would've recomened it, but I don't think RM will sell you it anymore. I would not recomend to ANYBODY going down the CC4 route due to the problems we've had (and are still having) and the massive impact it's had on our ICT Support team. Still trying to clear a massive backlog of jobs, not helped the mess some of the things such as our package build tools are in. I am also really not happy with RM company ethos- at the seminars they go on about how much they care about their customers and their networks- but they seem more bothered about starting new projects and bringing more money in than delvering missing features that were promised with CC4 or fixing existing problems!
  10. Hi there, Is it possible to donate and get a copy of VNC slideshow? It was something I was hoping to download and get going after we'd got our CC4 problems fixed- unfortuantally these problems are still ongoing! Would love a copy of VNC Slideshow to help me keep an eye on those playing games in the IT Suites. Thanks, Dan
