It is not intended to be definitive. It will be developed further over time in consultation with the post holder. The Director of IT will be responsible for the delivery of campus/estate wide IT and Telecommunications Services, managing the department, and assisting Stonyhurst in its strategic vision of IT. You will be responsible for all technical issues across the Stonyhurst campus. Managing processes and aligning IT support to the needs of the school and underpinning the core business processes, including the day to day workload of the department. You will manage the IT staff and Data manager in their roles across the campus and will be accountable for supporting all networks and systems, including regular safety checks and scheduled maintenance. The role encompasses the deployment of new IT assets across the campus. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week predominantly Monday – Friday with weekend cover as required. This role also requires willingness to work flexibly on occasions. Director of IT reports to the Finance & Operations Director. Key Tasks and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Management Support the Headmaster and Finance & Operations Director in delivering a strategic plan for the school’s IT infrastructure and systems. Lead on the implementation of the IT Strategy in conjunction with the Digital Strategy group, whilst delivering vision and innovation to the development and management of the IT infrastructure and systems, IT Team and wider resource. Work with relevant key stakeholders to get the necessary buy-in to the IT strategy, ensuring that everything is understandable in terms of educational objectives and outcomes Work with the Deputy Head (Academic) and wider academic colleagues to support innovation in classrooms and the development of digital teaching and learning Lead the day-to-day IT and digital support to the organisation through excellent project management, mapping all emerging requirements against the medium to long term priorities and tasks. Plan and control the IT capital and expenditure budgets delivering the strategic plan and operational objectives Data Protection, Governance & Compliance In liaison with the Finance & Operations Director, ensure that the IT governance structures and processes are designed to be compliant with data protection law. Support the Finance & Operations Director as the Privacy and Compliance Officer for the school, managing the GDPR / DPA 2018 obligations, Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIAs) and any other procedures for compliance and protection purposes. Ensure that the school is acting responsibly and legally with respect to copyright, acceptable use, data protection and security, reporting breaches of protocol to the appropriate person responsible. Ensure that any external IT contractors employed on the school site have the appropriate safeguarding paperwork in place, in accordance with our Contractors on-site policy, and that work is planned with the safety of pupils in mind. Work with the Deputy Head (Pastoral) and DSL, supporting the successful application of safeguarding and protection to our pupils and wider community including online safety Lead on all aspects of cyber security matters providing advice, development and training where appropriate whilst maintaining high levels of awareness and security Line Management of IT Team and Training Actively support and monitor the personal development of each member of the IT Team through recruitment, induction, performance management, appraisals, training and mentoring. Lead the IT Team through communicating the IT strategy, providing training and disseminating information to the team through 1-1 and team meetings. Oversee a program of training for staff across the school to ensure they can maximise the use of the technology and systems available to them. Project Management and Change Management Effective implementation of strategic objectives, and monitoring progress against these. Project Management of key IT projects with accountability to the Digital Strategy Group for their delivery. Systems Development and Data Management The Director of IT will be the key decision-maker in terms of getting the balance between bespoke/customised or “off-the-shelf” applications to support the organisation, and whether to resource projects in-house or via external contractors Operational Activities Overall responsibility for: - o Delivery of a reliable network. o Ensure all classrooms are well equipped and maintained to meet curriculum needs of pupils and staff. o Management and delivery of administrative services. o Management and delivery of reliable educational services. o Development of targets to measure network performance/reliability. o Hardware procurement strategy. o Plan, and participate in Disaster Recovery tests and contingency plans. o Maintain all necessary documentation including system manuals, cable diagrams, patching schedules, equipment inventories, orders, service records, loans, etc; o Ensure the campus Password vault is kept up to date and securely stored Oversee management and development of all onsite hosted services: o VMWare o Active Directory o Microsoft Entra o Sophos Central o Sage 50 Payroll o MIS cloud hosted Isams and associated services o File Servers o Print Servers o Hikvision CCTV & Paxton Access Control o 3CX (IP PBX) o WiFi and P2P links o Laptop 1-1 scheme for staff and pupils Ensure resources are available for scheduled, proactive and reactive system administration routines, such as o Setup user accounts o Management of Active Directory and Group Policy o Management of Intune o Scheduled Backups, both hosted and cloud based Policies with an IT component - for example, data protection, data retention, acceptable use. Data management and Management Information Systems. Systems Development. Management of software systems and databases – on premises and in the cloud. Telephony infrastructure and mobile phones Communication Build and maintain excellent relationships across the school to include Leadership Team, teaching and support staff. Regular communications with the teaching and support staff to make sure that issues are being dealt with effectively and in a timely manner, and to manage stakeholders’ engagement and support. This will include a clearly articulated process for prioritising IT development projects, and day to day support. Additionally, it is envisaged that the Director of IT will prepare agendas and keep minutes for the IT Steering Group / Digital Strategy Group (with input from the Finance & Operations Director as Chair of that committee). Work collaboratively with other key areas of the school, to ensure smooth and timely delivery of routine work or strategic projects. Provide overall direction and leadership of the IT Department through regular communication and feedback meetings. Ensure regular attendance at weekly team meetings with the Finance & Operations Director and the Heads of Department, and fortnightly meetings with the Finance & Operations Director. Financial Management (Procurement and Budgeting of IT) Preparation of annual running costs budget (services, license fees, consumables etc. Preparation of software, network infrastructure and other Operating Expenditure IT budgets. Ensure all providers of hardware and software services are managed through appropriate contracts so that key performance metrics are maintained and that inadequate performance is appropriately monitored and compensated for. Preparation of IT capital equipment budget, and any associated IT infrastructure capital Maintain full inventory of IT assets and consumables through the appropriate reporting processes including planning for replacements according to an agreed life-cycle. To ensure an asset register is maintained of all IT assets. Monitor and provide statements of expenditure against the budgets. Procurement plans will be evaluated in conjunction with the overall school budget by the Finance & Operations Director and Leadership Team. Reporting on progress against financial budget and delivery against project targets and operational KPIs. To carry out stock disposal in accordance with department, school policies and WEEE regulations Health & Safety Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the Company. To manage Health & Safety aspects of IT usage & to support the Deputy Head (Pastoral) on matters of pupil safety with respect to online safety. Managing and coordinating audits, including liaising with external contractors. Ensuring compliance with legislation and incorporate any updates in law into the Acceptable Use Policy. Keep up to date with changes in current legislation and to bring to the attention of the Finance & Operations Director relevant new legislation. Attend such courses/seminars run by external sources to enable accurate interpretation of legislation to enable implementation within Stonyhurst. Make provision for adequate and appropriate training to be provided to all employees. To ensure that notification and reporting procedures to the relevant statutory authorities are carried out. Person Specification A professional qualification or degree in an IT related subject - Essential A thorough understanding of enterprise level network infrastructures, including related utilities and tools - Essential A thorough understanding of enterprise network vendor products, features, programming and configuration, and network protocols - Essential Experience of working in an education-based environment - Desirable Substantial experience of designing and architecting enterprise-level network services, including hyperconverged environments, and layer three infrastructure - Essential In depth experience of working on project and change management. - Essential Experience and thorough understanding of network management & monitoring systems, performance tuning and troubleshooting. - Essential Experience of project and change management - Essential A working knowledge of network security management, and disaster recovery. - Essential Experience of liaising with the Data Manager concerning the MIS systems, in particular iSAMS - Desirable Experience of providing IT training - Desirable Experience of managing a budget - Desirable A working knowledge of all aspects of IT Infrastructure Systems and IT components with which the network services interact: user and server operating systems, client devices, storage devices etc. - Essential Skills and Attributes Be in sympathy with the Stonyhurst ethos as set out in the Stonyhurst mission statement You must be diplomatic and discreet with experience of dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.
