I was hoping that someone might be able to give me a steer on what they are doing in their organisation in relation to setting data retention rules within Google Vault.
As we know schools can be a minefield where we have staff saving everything and anything 'just in case'. We are really good at complying with data retention for our hard copy files but think there is a massive piece of work to do on our electronic files that currently have no retention rules in place (Drive and emails).
I have been through all the handbooks and can see how to set data retention rules or make custom data retention rules within Google Vault but would like to hear from anyone that has first hand experience when setting this up and managing it going forward. Are there any hints, tips or advice on things to or not do that I won't be able to take back once I set the rule?
Ideally, there will be some files/folders that we need to keep indefinitely (legal docs/land registry docs etc.) - is the best way to do this to create labels for the organisation and let staff label what they want to keep outside of the data retention period (with a justifiable reason!).
Grateful for any support and advice on this.
Thank you.
