  1. its dns. it makes no sense but it works.
  2. my network manager (my boss) just walked in and is going to change the dns to googles.
  3. sorry guys so much of that made no sense to me. im not trained in network troubleshooting
  4. So its pretty much the same issue as the start. Arbor on some machines tries to contact https://cdn.ravenjs.com/3.16.1/raven.min.js - Fails then returns a 403. I have tried forcing a chrome refresh, i have reinstalled windows and that wont work, i have tried it on a different wifi (one that bypasses smoothwall) and that doesnt work, i have tried it with the proxy off and that doesnt work. even uninstalling chrome and reinstalling doesnt work. Edge also doesnt work, im not permitted to try firefox so not sure with that. oh and not to mention, it only affects a handful of people - if it was dns it would affect everyone no?
  5. with it being a dns issue it sounds like its my bosses issue *insert devious smile* im fine waiting for whoever at smoothwall gets to me its eod for us now
  6. see i have a ticket open currently about this issue referencing this thread in the ticket. is there a fix for it yet?
  7. @5nowmanSmoothwall have obviously updated something and its broken some JS scripts.
  8. I have submitted my own ticket with the following "Hi as the title describes Arbor is trying to access https://cdn.ravenjs.com/3.16.1/raven.min.js however on some devices it times out and i get a 403. Apparently this is affecting other schools too, see here; https://www.edugeek.net/forums/topic/226544-smoothwall-blocking-access-to-arbor-mis/ I have tried the following; reinstalling chrome deleting cookies and browsing data hard restarting Arbor (CTRL + SHIFT + R) i have tried on a different wifi network i have tried with the smoothwall proxy off when you test the revenjs url in Smoothwalls policy tester it returns a bad dns lookup failed error."
  9. hey im just defending smoothwall but not trying to start an argument, if you are being affected and im being affected and according to other posts 5 other schools are being affected that 7 schools. 7 IT technicians reporting the same issue. they could be rammed right now regarding other websites using this raven js crap. give Smoothwall a second and they will get round to you and if staff are up your arse about it, lock ya office door, take 10 mins and come back or send a school wide email explaining you are actively investigating.
  10. well i followed the above actions policy testing it and i got the same thing "dns lookup failed"
  11. @toffee_pauli didnt think of adding the devices IP to Smoothwall as when we turned our smoothwall off (on the device) it still didnt load. gonna shove a pencil up my nose and bang my desk real quick this is annoying
  12. Hi guys i do not think this is a smoothwall issue. We have the same issue (arbor trying to access https://cdn.ravenjs.com/3.16.1/raven.min.js) and on affected devices it returns a 403 (FORBIDDEN) error. The reason we dont think this is smoothwall issue is even connected to a wifi that goes straight out it still happens.
  13. i always thought non critical and critical is the unfancy way of calling Quality and Feature updates - my bad!
  14. this is what the setting says, should they be swapped?
  15. Sadly, we cant move from WSUS as I am not the NW Manager - We are in the near future (12 months) moving to Chrome due to moving into a trust but I mean...its a pain my ass when i remote onto someone's machine and see the red windows update icon. The way i have it configured now will be; Check every day Auto Download and Schedule Auto Install Every Week Dont auto restart between 8AM and 4PM Auto restart when the following is met; Non Critical updates have been waiting to install for >4 Days Critical updates have been waiting >7 Days. Sadly our machines are made up of Laptops and Desktops but the main culprit is the desktops.
  16. The above is currently what i have configured. I also have configured the below to help with when the PC should restart; We just struggle with staff members constantly ignoring updates. Critical updates can be pending for months and when we ask we can never get their machines so this is a big help if it works
  17. update - found the policy setting and we only had 1 configured. great. Configuring them now, thanks for the help.
  18. ill have a little poke around the Group Policy settings then, we are quite happy with WSUS (much better then what we had before) its just when it comes to half terms 3/4 of my job is going round, updating pcs and restarting them. Sounds easy but its a task i know should be automated.
  19. the computers seem to pull updates but i still have to manually log in to each one and then run windows update.
  20. sadly i am not the network manager, just a tech so i have no persuasion in these swaps.
  21. aha sadly we are a wsus based network. guessing its not compatable?
  22. we are domain joined, whats wufb?
  23. Hi all - apologies if this doesn't belong here but i was wondering how or what ways do people run windows updates on scale without physically logging into each machine, running windows updates and restarting each machine. We only have about 100PC's but when I'm doing this on my own it can take 1-2 days depending on how out of date a machine is. I googled somethings and found Command Prompting "UsoClient ScanInstallWait" is meant to scan, download, install and restart the machine but it doesn't do anything. I then found I can use powershell and do "powershell.exe -command "(New-Object -ComObject Microsoft.Update.AutoUpdate).DetectNow()"" and thats meant to do the same thing however I cant find a way to run Powershell in CMD. See we use Senso as a monitoring software and it lets us run modules and one of them is CMD but I wanted to know if theres an alternative i could be doing?
  24. Hi all Making this post as we are currently running into issues with staff joining google meet meetings, zoom meetings or even teams meetings and even though we have a GPO that says Yes to everything, google still requires you to go to the sites settings page and click "allow". Its honestly getting annoying, i even have a scribe guide (a step by step guide) on how to do this and they still complain. How do you approach this? is this a fault on my end or a PEBKAC?
