  1. Hi Geoff, If budget allows, have a look at the (J9146A) HP ProCurve 2910al-24G-PoE+ Switch which gives extra power. Either way, watch out for the PoE. If you are going N standard wireless, on alot of vendors kit you will need a PoE+ port to run the AP's (new standard 802.3at as appose to the older 802af), as they draw more power, therfore you may need a PoE+ switch. Again, I can only comment on the HP stuff. If you buy a dual radio AP, you only need a PoE+ port if you are running both radio's at N standard. If you are running your b/g laptops through one radio, and you N's through another, you are still fine with normal PoE. Seriously....go N though....300Mbps to each laptop!....it's magical!
  2. Hi all, OK then, I know this post has been added a number of times, but what's the virdict on the best Remote Control software?? I have a list of the usual suspects - Netsupport, Netop, etc as well as a couple I hadnt heard of before - Junglebyte Teach, Smart Sync and Lanschool. I know they are all much of a muchness, but has anyone had experience of more than one and can give me any information about one that might be a, the best option and b, (more importantly!) less likely to give me problems!?
  3. We use 2x73GB HDD's in RAID 1 format, then a number of disks in RAID 5 for the data or D partition. Works OK for us if you can afford to use 2x73's just on your C drive.
  4. Hiya, We have Exchange 2007 and are using OWA. To do it properly you do have to have a Unified Coms Certificate. We dont and people just have to press the continue button if they are accessing form outside. From inside though, you can generate your own SSL certificate (using selfSSL) and deploy it to your stations through AD, so your internal stations do not get the message. That wont help from outside though sorry!
  5. Hi, To answer the origional question, the HP kit is fine. I use HP switches and wireless without issue. To clear up a wireless question for certain - The HP stuff is totally centralised. You set up a profile and the AP's adopt to the general profile (or whichever profile you wish). You can also prevent this happening if you want. It will also be fine with 30+ laptops no problem. we have 250+, and have 300Mbs connections all over the school for N laptops. It does everything you would ever wish. We have multiple wireless networks, and use the HP stuff to forward http traffic through to our proxy so we dont have to get our guest users to add proxy settings etc. We also use the access lists to prevent students accessing parts of the network we dont want them to. It basically does everything I want it too, and Im sure other wireless solutions do too, but to answer the question directly - your HP stuff will do all you want it to and work fine. To enter into a more wider debate I also have experience of the Meru system, which is also good and well worth a look, though has less functionality than the HP stuff in my opinion. The cell based stuff makes config very simple although you could argue that if the wireless solution supports 30+ laptops then is the single cell method necessary? I dont know anything about the Rukus system, but I see there are plenty enough people on here to tell you about that!
