I started my degree course in Computer Science in 1969 when very few universities offered any Computer related courses. I worked mostly on Main Frame computers and remember when Allied Dunbar paid £ 500,000 for 1 MB of main storage (and when a previous employer paid £5,000 for 4KB of storage to allow me to write programs in Fortran rather than machine code). I have struggled to keep up with modern technology and the family had relied heavily on DJ-1701 to keep us up to date with all things IT – always setting up new computers , phones or tablets.
