Although they use Airdrop (make sure it's enabled on all the devices) there does seem to be some form of communication peer to peer too as an initial check. I suspect the certificate identity might be part of this check. When it works, it's great. I learned all of this from Airwatch support- they were great when I dropped a case into them. Maybe a lack of consistency in their support team. I've also got an enquiry sitting with Apple just now to try to get more detail about how well this plays on Cisco Wireless controlled kit. @jon_sco has some Aerohive kit that we're going to try another test on, to see if it's a particular issue with Cisco.

yes, it should show as missing, as it doesn't actually deploy the full app. On the device itself, go into: Settings > General > Profile and Device Management > Lightspeed MDM Profile > More Details The student devices should have a certificate called Member Identity and the Staff device should have a certificate called Leader Identity If this is the case, then all is good... Can you use a phone as a 4G hotspot and attach the devices to it to test?

Excellent- can you let me know if the Classroom app manages to control the pupil devices on your wireless setup? This is the issue we're wrestling with. All fine on wifi hubs, but not on our Cisco network, even though peer to peer is enabled.

Should look like this when you're done: Also, make sure that you've deployed the classroom app to all of the devices in the class, not just the teacher device. It won't show up on the pupil devices, but it will roll out config and member certificate details.

There's a bug in the preview version.... go into: https://launch.lightspeedsystems.com/users/sign_in and sign into your establishment. Go to Admin tools and select Groups In the search bar, find the group you've created for Classroom and click on it to see the members Check that the teacher is there as a member. If not, add them Then make sure that they have the word Admin beside them. If not, click on the drop down to the right of their name and make them admin of the group Re-sync classroom and make sure it is enabled in settings are the group level in Lightspeed.

We've got it working with Lightspeed, but not on our wireless network. Works fine on broadband hub/router, works fine on 4G modem, just wont see devices on the network. jon_sco is investigating.... How far have you got with it? Does the Classroom app open on the teacher device?

Xibo for me, having used several other offerings (OneLAN I have particular hatred of). It's a great way of using up old kit as client devices!

We moved over to Sophos Web Filter appliance and it has been pretty good. Any issues we've had have been minor and the tech support guys have been swift to respond. The only issue I have with it is its inability to override a file extension for a user within a policy (if you have a block on .exe access for teachers for example, but there is a trusted app you want them to be able to install, you cannot exempt that one URL from the block.), so it's a bit on-or-off in its filtering capabilities. The reporting side is fine, but there's an even better report manager about to come out to us next week. They regularly update the boxes for free and new features come online every month or two. The price was pretty good too- half of what we were paying previously.

Hi, having been a user of both SEEMIS and Phoenix Gold I can probably give you Pros and Cons for both, but I'll concentrate on SEEMIS just now... Pros: Used by the overwhelming majority of Local Authorities in Scotland, and tailored to Scottish Education a little better. Phoenix only have 3 or 4 Scottish Authorities left and they are slow to tailor their new offering (E1) to the Scottish market. You join a club, you dont purchase software. You become a joint owner of SEEMIS when you join, which gives you an equal say in the direction the organisation goes in, and all profit goes back into developing the product. It also means that you get unlimited licences, unlike Phoenix. SEEMIS covers a far broader spectrum of topics, even having its own version of Groupcall- could save an Authority £20k a year alone. Also has HGIOS stuff, EMA, Clothing Grant, Nursery enrolement, and best of all Vision- which datamines all of your establishments. Oh and you get all of these modules for free with SEEMIS, unlike Phoenix. SQA works a lot better. The pupil is tied to the timetable and the subject choice- which means that things like Scholar passwords are sent automatically. ScotXed is a doddle to do too. Cons: Local Authority mentality- their training isnt slick and they dont do marketing very well Standard letters isnt as flexible as Phoenix Not as quick to implement/accept local changes to the system Most of the complaints from staff are down to changes in procedure. Once they work through it and see the long term benefits they come round to the new offering. On the whole, with a complete overview of the system, SEEMIS is far better in the long run than Phoenix Gold.
